Has anyone been able to mount the GP2X via the USB cable on MacOS X?
I have a 1GB SD card that works fine in my card reader, but not via USB on GP2X. My Mac doesn't seem to pay any attention, like the GP2X is not even there.

Does your mac have USB 2.x ports or USB 1.x? There is a known problem with the GP2X not mounting correctly on any system (Win, Linux, Mac) that has USB 2.x ports. My G4 has only 1.x ports and it works perfectly.
You can check if the system has detected the device, although not mounted it, using System Profiler.

Well that's kind of annoying. Yes, I have a relatively new PowerBook G4 with USB 2.x ports. My brand new device needs an old USB port to talk to?! Any word on a fix?
The system profiler says this about it:
Code:
File-backed Storage Gadget:
  Version:	2.29
  Bus Power (mA):	500
  Speed:	Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:	Linux 2.4.25 with net2272
  Product ID:	0xa4a5
  Serial Number:	3035204A756E
  Vendor ID:	0x0525

I got round this problem by using a USB1 hub. I was only interested in proving that the powerbook could see the GP2x though - I wouldn't want to use it that way. A USB SD card reader is the easiest option, whatever the OS.

Wow, this is pretty baffling!

I have a 15" PowerBook with USB 2 ports, so if I buy a GP2X, as I'm planning to do, then I won't be able to mount it on my desktop? This means I'm definately going to have to buy another device such as a card reader or USB 1 hub? That's really nuts, is there any chance of a patch or fix to whatever it is about the GP2X firmware that is preventing it talking to USB 2?

Otherwise, the cost of the GP2X just seems to keep creeping up, GP2X + Card + Card Reader etc etc...

What kind of Mac do you have, and what OS version are you running? Are you connecting the GP2X to a USB1 or 2 port?

I've got a 1GHz iMac G4 running 10.4.4 which has got USB1 ports, i'll try it on my G5 aswell later because that has USB2

An update for anyone who is interested, I now have a GP2X and have tried it out with my Mac.

I have a PowerBook running OSX 10.4.5 and it does not mount via USB2, but my girlfriend has an iBook running OSX 10.3.9 and it does mount on her desktop when plugged into her USB1 port.

Hope that helps, I have ordered a card reader anyway now so just waiting for that to arrive...

My experience has been WinXP is able to detect my GP2X+1GIG SD Card but cannot mount it in My Computer (Gets a red cross in device manager).

My Gentoo Linux system detects it and automounts it as /media/sdc. This is using USB2.x

Edit: spelling.
