... I have no idea how to get anything to run in the new MESS emu. Could someone point me in the right direction as to how I can make a script? I got the 'Selector' files from the archive, and I'm not sure how to configure it to run the TI-99/4a emu from MESS.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi TelcoLou,

Hehe, awesome you got it going. You aren't a "retard" either, mess is one of the more complicated emulators out there since it supports so many different systems in one codebase.

Have fun!

Hmm, now I'm trying to play around with Atari 7800.

I've got the correct bios, zipped, in the BIOS folder, but I get the same black screen/menu dump after I select "an intial A7800 cartridge". Help!

Edit: Note, I got Colecovision to run :)

Hiya TelcoLou,

Cool you got Colecovision going. I just verified that Atari 7800 runs OK on my gp2x. My guess is that you don't have a compatible atari 7800 rom dump. Mine is 2439 bytes. Inside should be a file called 7800.rom that is 4096 (4k) bytes. If you could try that trick I told you about earlier (adding the > debug.out 2>&1 ) to the end of the gp2xmess line and paste the output here, we might be able to figure it out.

Thanks for your patience :)

I have the correct bios file (checked the file size inside the .zip .. 4096 bytes ... I even got another file in case my original one was corrupt, but same results).

Now where do I paste the line "> debug.out 2>&1" ? Into what file specifically? I first changed the "a7800.gpe" file into a .txt, then edited it using Programmer's Notepad (adding "> debug.out 2>&1" at the end of the last line), then changed it back to a .gpe ... is it supposed to generate a log? I really feel quite dumb at this point; I must be missing something obvious ... :p

Yep, in a7800.gpe add that to the end of the first line. It captures all of the printed output of the program. My guess is that it doesn't like something and will hopefully spit out what that is. Make sure your editor preserves the line feeds or it won't run at all. Also, just want to double check you are trying to load an .a78 file which is a 7800 game. I know that's obvious but I've tried to load Atari 2600 games on occasion.

Let me know how it goes.

Cool, I got a debug.out file! :D

Anyway, I tested with xevious.a78 (same thing happens with polepostion2.a78)

Here's what it says:

Code:
info: trying to parse: /usr/local/share/xmess/xmessrc
info: trying to parse: /root/.xmess/xmessrc
info: trying to parse: /usr/local/share/xmess/xmess-SDLrc
info: trying to parse: /root/.xmess/xmess-SDLrc
info: trying to parse: /usr/local/share/xmess/rc/a7800rc
info: trying to parse: /root/.xmess/rc/a7800rc
SDL_SYS_JoystickInit
Could not add timer: scrolling while holding joystick up/down will not work
OSD: Info: Joystick 0, 2 axis, 11 buttons
loading rom 0: 7800.rom
done

... hey, I wasn't holding the joystick at all! <_<

Hmm, the joystick thing is just a message I print out when it fails to add a timer. You don't have to touch the joystick to see that. :)

I've sent you a PM

telengard rocks!

Turns out, the Atari 7800 BIOS needs to be named "a7800.zip"
