12-10-2005:

I have been done some experiments with Reesy DrZ80 core and GCC 4.01. This is a specific version of MAME GP32 optimized to run only one game: Ghosts'n Goblins. These improvements will be used in the next MAME GP32 version.

Enjoy.

EEEk!!!

Another update so fast! You absolutely rock ... thanks again :D

Edit: 1st post :p

Ouch. recreated in all it's painful, painful glory. Well done so far... I've never been able to get off the first level of the arcade version.

Awesome :)

Btw, are there any pluses to the MAME version of GnG compared to say the Sega Genesis one?

This is excellent news - What are the improvements? I noticed a significant speed increase in the first release with Reesy's core in...

It is stupidly hard, but at least you can continue for free on your GP32. I wonder if anybody ever completed it by shoving cash into a machine?

Was Ghosts and Goblins released on Genesis? I know Ghouls and Ghosts was, but that is a different (and not as good IMHO) game...

I played it for about 3 hours once on my mame cabinet, I could not get past about level 3. Outragiously hard.

I managed to complete it once (both endings) on my MAME cab, but it took a long time - with save states too...

Worth it though - some of the graphics in the later levels are nice. Did you ever get to see the dragons? - 2d versions of the dragons from Space Harrier...

YAY! This is amazing news! Thanks Franxis!! Yupp, the game is difficult all right. Back in school I got pretty good at it. And could usually get to level 5, with just one credit. But I never even got close to defeating the level 5 boss.

nope, ghosts 'n goblins was never released for the megadrive/genesis, so this a great game to have on our gp32's, tons better than the nes conversion.

Thanks Franxis!

Cool thanks. Will all of these different versions be part of the main MAME release along with some way of marking the DrZ80 compatible and non compatible ones? It is kind of getting confusing and out of control a bit. You have to remember which version works with the DrZ80 version and which doesn't. If the "wrong" version is loaded and run it doesn't work so you have to reset and try with the old one etc. It is alot of back and forth and round and round. Maybe something could be added in the front end that automatically loads the appropriate fxe or something. Maybe make it configurable so it could be changed by the user as things become compatible.

This improvements will be included in next MAME GP32 version, of course.

But those games will not run as fast as in those versions. This is because the MAME core in shrinked to run only those games and some other tricks to make those games faster.

About the DrZ80 and normal C core selection, it is not possible to do it in an easy way. I doubt i would add this functionality.

Regards.

Could something be added to the front end where the user could edit a file (similar to the analog settings) to set which .FXE it loads? This way I could set it so your single optimised game fxes, the DrZ80 fxes, and the games that only work with the non-DrZ80, would automatically load from the main list. Otherwise it is getting hard to remember what works better with what. It is kind of confusing as there is getting to be so many variations

I think the front end idea would work best.
