One of the things that i looked forward to doing with my gp2x was using the tvout to watch fansubbed anime. I have attempted to do this with different series/encodes and using different tvs, but the subs are always halfway cut off at the bottom. I have tried repositioning the screen in the gp2x tvout settings but I can't seem to make it move up to any noticeable degree. I know that these files are meant to be viewed on computer monitors, but I hope there is something I can do to solve this problem.

Thanks

I had the same problem until I came across Pocket Divx Encoder.
Just choose Palm Tungsten(it's the one I choose anyway), change the size of the screen to something close to 320 by 240. Then encode it and the subtitles should be all the way on the screen, at least they are for me. Hope this helps

I know the problem you speak of. I believe that the problem is that the video was encoded, especially since it's a fansub, from an NTSC source. And you're watching it on a PAL TV right? Although it has NTSC playback, the picture is still a tad bigger than it should be, thus the subtitles down the bottom are cut.

Thanks,

I'm in the U.S. so I am pretty certain that both of the tvs I tried it on were NTSC.

Ill have to try that encoder, though i hope it's not too time consuming <_<

Oh! Sorry :(

Myself, I actually bought a DVD player that supports Divx & Xvid format so I can just download the fansubs and watch them straight away.

One of the things advertised about the Gp2x was that you could watch high res movies on the gp2x (which would be autoscalled) or in their Native resolutions on TV, it does seem awfully troublesome and time consuming to re-encode.

Here's hoping the media player will have some other functions to fix this problem, (some on the pc add "letterboxes" black bars down the top and bottom which pushes the pictures closer together)

I actually bought the gp2x as an alternative to a kiss dp-1100 dvd player (for divx).

I hope those features you talked about will be added soon... but re-encoding for the time being is not so bad, I suppose.

Well on the plus side, the re-encoding of the files to a lower resolution shouldn't take that long at all compared to say encoding a divx from a DVD

Just as a side note, I burn a lot of fansubs to VCD. One thing i noticed over the years, is that most TVs will cut off a margin around the video. Its usually not much, but often will cut into the sub. The more experienced fansub groups usually offset the sub enough so that it accounts for this.
