How Do I Start Devloping

you may want to try the fenix language, there is a d/l in the archive which sets up a developing environment in one shot - http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,14,1373

evildragon has written 3 tutorials and there is also another tutorial in one of the gp2x magazines.

for me a nonprogrammer as well the language looks relatively straightforward.

Yes Fenix is supposed to be very easy to get to grips with so it is probably a good place to start. Then when you have got your hands dirty a little, you could probably try c++ with SDL, or maybe Java (JAMVM)
