How Do I Get Roms Onto The Gp32

And why cant you? Works fine for me.
If you have some problem with PC-Link just get a SMC Read/Writer and drop everything onto your SMC that way.

you could try using the hacked version of pc link that allows for longer file names.
as the standard pc link needs to meet set name requirements, so maybe thats why you cant get them on you smc.

I use the regular PC Link and it seems to work just fine for me, I can copy any files to the SMC. But regardless its best to get a SMC reader/writer anyway. :)

I think someone doesnt know how to use PC Link.

You can use PC Link just like you would Windows Explorer. Copy & Paste files where ever you want them.

The standard PC Link cannot copy files with long file names. If you want to use it you need to rename your ROMs to 8.3 format names.

Alternatively, you could try:

the hacked version of PC link (available on this site somewhere)

Squidges GPDrive (a program that lets your GP32 behave like a SMC writer - doesn't work on Win 98 or below)

An SMC read/writer

Guys - I don't use PC link cos I've got a mac, but I'm interested to know how the hacked version deals with longer filenames...

Does it chop the extra characters off, or can the GP32 actually handle longer names?

if youre using gpdrive when you look at the smc through windows all the file names are correct but if, for example youre looking through fgen the file names will be:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (JUE) [!].zip ==> sonict~2
Robocop vs The Terminator (REV 670) (U) [!].zip ==> roboco~1
Gunstar Heroes (U) [!].zip ==> gunsta~1

get the idea?

the gp32 have a normal fat12/fat16(dont remember) file system, so yes it can handel them, but the sdk lib works only as 8.3, but if you wirte your own smc code you can read long filenames. you can see that in some programms.

I thought it actually pulled the name out of the file when it seemed to read longer file names .

Would make sense.

Downloading GP32 roms and trying to get them working on his GP32. Bad, BAD BOY!

whenever i would get roms i would just rename them, but then i got a SMC reader/writer for like $5 and it is a lot better

i have another question that is a little off topic. SNES roms have the extension .smc so would those GP32 roms work on the SNES emu? (im not going to try just curious)

Not at all :)
The extension of SNES roms just stands for the name of the dumper format used and there are several (sfc, smc, ...). This is not related with the smart media card dumps (.smc) that are, I guess, only a dump of the FAT12 partition on a smart media card.
It's just about names' collision ;)

Is it legal to dowlaod a rom of a game you own?
As I own super mario bros 1 , 2 and 3 on the nes.
Plus a couple others.
