Okay, I bought a dreamcast from a second hand store that normally never sells crap. When I plugged it in at home, I noticed that apparently the game-pad was broken. I have already checked that resistor inside the DC that bursts sometimes, and it seems to provide the resistance it should. Also, the VMU switches on when I plug the controller in and informs me that it's battery is dead by beeping. So the controller must have some kind of a connection to the DC that provides power to the vmu...

What the heck could be broken then? Is it the console itself that might be busted? Anybody ever experienced something like this? If I just had another controller I could check what is broken. But noone I know has a dreamcast... it wasn't so big in Germany...

I know that's kidna basic, but have you checked if all the contacts are clean?
Also, is it an original controller or a third party one?

It's an original controller and I haven't checked the contacts... My idea is that the cable could be broken. I will clean the contacts and try again.
