i was curious, i know that the gp32 was there first so took some time to gain popularity but in comparison is the gp2x getting more freeware faster then the gp32 did? atm the gp2x has around 150 freeware compared to the gp32 which has something in the 400's. i understand that the gp32 came out over 4 years ago atleast and this isnt even a year old so it seems to be growing much faster but does it slow down after the first year or just grows the same?

The GP32 originally only ran signed software until they released the free launcher thing, which caused lots of problems, as it had to be signed for you unit, and the GP website didn't work half the time.

GP2X on the other hand, started out life being able to run standard linux executables before even a case was designed for it (some developers got prototype caseless units to start writing apps with).

So the GP2X got freeware apps the quickest, but now the mad rush to port everything is over, we'll start to see exactly how popular it is with proper homebrew, rather than just ports of emu's.

for the first 18 months or so the gp32 was pretty much dead. it wasnt really until craig decided to promote the gp32 like mad that it started to get any decent software.

squidge is spot on, the releases have slowed down a bit now the initial rush is over. next six months should be the true test of homebrew for it.
