I have a Hi-speed 40g Drive which uses fat32 system file
it connects up ok to my gp2x using ARTaylor’s usb hub
but it doesn’t recognize the drive! I have used the formatting
tool www.jaylink.nl but still my gp2x does not recognize the
drive/it does recognize my usb memory stick and my card reader drive ( both
very useful ) can someone please help? :)

Are you connecting the drive to a power supply? the 2X can't provide enough power through USB to run the drive.

:D Yes thanks......I Bought ARTaylors usb powered hub and the power
light comes on ok. "thats the power light on the external drive".

i have jonjo's setup here and it seems that the drive is definatly powered up etc.

looking though the system if i have a usb pen drive attached to the hub as well as the hard drive the pen drive succesfully shows up as sdb whereas if the harddrive wasnt connected it shows as sda. which would imply that the system is seeing it.

i've connected to telnet and manually tried to mount it but its not having it

having created a folder in the ext folder called sda

[root@gp2x dev]$mount sda /mnt/ext/sda
mount: Mounting /dev/sda on /mnt/ext/sda failed: Invalid argument

anyone have any ideas?

That is complaining about the NAND having lots of blocks marked as bad, not anything you've plugged in.

oh thats not good then :(

should i be seeing anything in there about the external drive then?

just plugged a usb mem stick into it and get

CODE

so the fact i aint seeing anything to do with the hard drive is a little disconcerting.

oh. just plugged in a different (self powered , ntfs though) external hd and get

so it looks like it may well be the drive then :( but dont understand, if it works in windows fine and dandy :(

oops another thing. just plugged drive into diff port and although its still not being seen, i get the following in the dmesg

I had a whole heap of problems getting my GP2X to recognize my hard drive I was using through a cradle while using 3.0 firmware. After changing to firmware 2.11 it found it straight away. This may solve your problem.
