OK the GP2X is a powerful system. It also a appetite to match as well.

Its power requirements are something like 1000 miliamps at 3.3 Volts Direct Current.
Regulated adaptors are a much better bet for long term operation.

the general concensus is to get several 2500mAh Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.
(typically used for digital cameras, ect...)

The DC adaptor requirements, are:
3V 1000mA capacity with the tip needing a 2,35mm x 0,75mm negative(-) inside positive(+) outside barrel type connector. (might be EIAJ-01)

Compatible Adaptors:

(In UK) Maplin (www.maplin.co.uk) have the following adaptors:

Switched mode - UG47B, £12.99 - needs connector AR29G, £0.49
Regular transformer - VN10L, £14.99
Digital camera adapter - N93AA, £19.99

Uniross Universal Adaptor 1250mA

(In UK) Batteries:

http://rswww.com/ -- Ansmann rechargeables (considered to be among the best)

The digital camera adapter says it comes with a connector of the right size. Not sure what size connecters come with the regular, but the switched mode one needs the seperate connecter (AR29G)

Digital camera adapter is 2100mAh, other two are 1200mAh

Connecting the switched mode adapter to the connecter, insert connector aligning the arrow with the + for correct polarity.

I have the same Uniross adaptor from that eBay link, but 800mA version, and that hasn't seemed to be the source of any problems for me yet. I would be more comfortable with a 1A+ capable model though. The connector type is the smallest one that is found at the very top on the right of the row of different connectors in the picture (mine had a yellow rim at the end of the metal connector tip). The right angled tip is very nice also, the connector+wire fits inside the palm of my right hand when holding the GP2X with no adverse side-effects.

Turambar, check that link does it work for you?

It seems there is some problem with that site.

In the USA, I picked up 4 Energizer 2500mAh rechargable batteries and a charger for $19.95. Got them at Walgreens, a nationwide drugstore, although they're also available at Best Buy for about the same price. I haven't picked up a power supply yet, but I believe Circuit City or Radio Shack carries the proper supply.

I thought GP2X was centre negative, meaning that the arrow points to the -?

My GBA charger uses 6V centre positive (the little C thingy on the symbol's open end is towards the +) and my arrow (or rather the letters TIP) is pointing to the + on the connector, and that works.

I recommend Budget Batteries for rechargeables, they do the 2600mAh variety of Ansmanns (£3.51 per battery), plus you can buy single batteries, so you can get the amount you want.

Well I would recommend this:

Model: 273-1667
Catalog #: 273-1667

3-12VDC/800mA Regulated AC-to-DC Adapter

Adaptor if buying from Radio shack. However their prices are rarely good.

I just walked into a Radio Shack and asked the guy for a handheld power supply. He asked me a few questions (voltage and so on), I showed him my GP2x ("is that a PSP?"), he tried a couple of plugs to see which would fit and ten minutes later I was out of there with a working, 2000mA power supply that can supply several voltages between 3V and 7.5V. It's at home and I'm at work right now, but I believe it was called a digital camera charger on the box. It's a generic RS part, nothing fancy, but it works pretty well. The bonus part was that the little plug that came with it was already right-angled, and I'd forgotten to ask for that :)

About the price, I forget how much it was but if I don't remember thinking it was terribly expensive (but then, I have a job so ymmv ;))

Mine's got the + at the arrow, definately -ve centre, I tested it before plugging it into my precious.

Mine doesn't say TIP, one side has an arrow, the other labels the two pins. Good job I don't trust labeling - can't beat an old LED / multimeter.
