we have just received the open pandora and r  trying to get it working .but for some reason we cant get the files to execute to install them or run the .we did manage to get civilization to work by running pnd application thru it but the rest of the things from the pnd store don't say that just says execute and nothing happens.and now i cant do anything including getting onto the internet so if someone can help me i would appreciate it.

Pnds go in the menu folder in pandora/menu. All executables then appear in the desktop menu on your pandora.

More info is needed.what have you done so far.setup? Did you install the codec pack?

The doom games require the wad files from the retail or shareware versions. have those been added to the right folders?

Have you read the quickstart manual on the desktop of the Pandora?

It gives some basic information and tells you where to put PNDs as well :)

you can easily format the SD card and build the needed folder structure using

Start -> System -> Create Pandora SD Card

Download the PND Manager from the PND Store.  Then forget PNDStore.  Use PND Manager.

I think it (the Store) automatically installs to "menu"  The PND Manager lets you choose.

The first thing is to make sure your SD card is formatted correctly to FAT32 or EXT2 (I use and recommend FAT32...but there are some things that require an EXT2 format, as I understand...however, since you seem not too advanced at this stuff - like me - I'd use FAT32)

The best way to do this is to download the Panasonic SD Card Formatter to your PC...it's free, Google it.

Format your SD Card.

Now, make the following Folders in your SD Card:

Pandora

Under "Pandora" make the following folders:

Appdata

Apps

Desktop

Menu

Now download stuff you want.

If you want the icon to appear on the desktop, you need to save the .pnd in "Apps" or "Desktop"

Desktop will make it show up ONLY in the Desktop.

Apps will make it show up in Desktop AND Menu,

Menu, of course, makes it show up ONLY in Menu.

I'd be happy to help you however I can.  do you live in the United States?  If so, I might even be willing to talk to you on the phone to walk you through some of this...my payback, as someone here once did this for me, too!

In this case I think they're referring to the actual original DOOM game files (not the Pandora PND application) - some programs are just 'game engines' - they replace the original underpinnings of a game so that it can be played on a different system. They don't include the original game's files because they are still copyright material, so you need to have or acquire certain files from the actual game and put them where the PND's documentation tells you to (Not where you put PNDs).

Any of the DOOM versions you see will require the Doom.wad file from an original PC version of Doom. You only put Pandora programs (PNDs) in the 'menu', 'desktop' or 'apps' folders, not any additional files.

When you launch any program, like one of the Doom engines, it will create it's own folder for all it's related files within the 'appdata' folder (on your SD card that's in pandora/appdata/). Any additional files will then need to be put somewhere within the 'appdata' folder belonging to the PND in question - there will usually be a documentation file showing up now if you call up the pandora menu (bottom left icon or pandora button) and look under 'documentation' - alternatively there will be a wealth of info in the release thread (search Software in this forum) for any particular program.

EDIT: Is the reply/quote function borked? Can't see html to correctly edit multi-quotes or manually attribute names, just see quote bubbles.. bleh

Yeah the way this version of the message editor handles quotes in 'wysiwyg' mode is really irritating, and as Binky said in another thread I miss quick quote.

Luckily you can click the switch icon at the top left corner of the message editor to switch to a text only mode, which gives you direct control over the quote tags.

Ah! Much better, thanks!
