rockchip 3188 is a 28nm(glofo) quad core based cortex a9, 4g support, the usual features. There are a few tbd parts ie clocks and gpu config.

allwinner a31 40nm(fab?) quad core based a7 -lower perf than a9(rockchip had slides up for this too). interesting note, the gpu is called 8 cores but spec sheet says sgx 544 mp2, are there 4 cores/mp?

china is keeping up and will surpass japanese and korean counterparts in ~4 years.

I wonder what's the price is going to be this time then. I heard those SoCs are difficult to buy outside China though..

It's funny because according to Wikipedia (yes I know ) the RK31xx series was meant to be dual core. The RK32xx series is meant to be the quad core chips.

Rockchip RK31xx series

Rockchip has announced the RK31xx series for the third quarter of 2012. It uses a dual core Cortex-A9 CPU with 2 GHz frequency or faster on a 28 nm process.[15]

Rockchip RK32xx series

Rockchip has announced the RK32xx series for the third quarter of 2012, it uses a quad core Cortex-A9 CPU. The performance of this processor will be similar to an Nvidia Tegra 3 or Samsung Exynos 4412.

Wow China is doing the unexpected ... Becoming successful despite being communist .

Compatibility with Windows 8 is of course technically wrong, they mean Windows RT which isn't really the same thing.

that just seems like semantics when you consider that they are both using the same kernel.

It's not semantics. Windows is not just the kernel. The fact that you can only get software through the store in Windows RT (not counting office) and that third party apps can't use the desktop makes it very different just by itself.

well on its own merits, the x86 and arm versions are the same - discounting 3rd party apps. An analogy would be ubuntu on x86 and on arm, aren't they same os(even if they had different names)?

Completely wrong: China is becoming successful precisely because they abandoned the communist model in favor of free market reforms. It is now easier to start a private company in China than it is in europe or the USA.

Or do you think that rockchip and allwinner are produced by state-run industries?

This is not just a sandwall or ISA incompatibility, the entire traditional Windows API is missing. If you don't think that's an important part of the OS then I really don't know what to tell you. Your line of reasoning is more like saying that Ubuntu and Android are the same OS because they both use the Linux kernel..

And it's not just third party apps, even some first tier first party programs like Outlook and WMP are missing.

Finally the RK3188 Quad core SOC looks to be coming , probably see it in devices in May my guess would be (Maybe sooner) .   Looks to be running at upto 1.8Ghz and is claimed to be 30% faster than Tegra 3.

What's the odds it will be in the next Archos Gamepad let alone the next wave of chinese PC Sticks.

See the story's below:
