Can someone possibly explain how to set up a game, what folder structure, where to put it, what commands to use to launch, how to config controls etc as there isn't any instructions whatsoever in the documentation.

Thanks.

You dont need to config anything.

After starting dosbox ex, you'll see a two-panel app called doszip.

You'll need to change drive in doszip using ALT + F2 [and choose D] and navigate to your dosbox game directory. After finding a game dir just press ENTER on EXE/COM/BAT file. Thats it.

You dont need to set up controls as they're already configured to play almost all games on pandora gamng buttons

So now I have Dosbox EX installed properly and have added games with it. So all I need to do is type in the command 'cd' then type in the name of the game I want to play?

Then that game will run?

on dxbx EX, no.. just navigate into directory using doszip and use [ENTER] on games executable..

Thanks for the advice StreaK.

I'll give it a go later this PM.

The command cd stands for change directory. If you type cd example you will open the subdirectory example from your current working directory (like double-clicking the example directory in windows explorer).

A short overview of the most basic commands:

  • C: change to drive C (D: changes to drive D, etc...).
  • cd foo : change current working directory to subdirectory foo.
  • cd .. : change current working directory to parent directory.
  • dir : show directory contents. dir /w shows a wide view (fits more entries on the screen). You can also use patterns: dir *.exe shows all executables with the .exe extension in the current directory (.com and .bat are also executable).
  • setup.exe : starts the executable setup.exe if it is on your path (e.g. in the current working directory). Use above dir command to find the name of the applications executables.
  • mount E /media/my_sd_card/documents. Maps the E drive to the directory /media/my_sd_card/documents such that you can access its content. Replace E with a free drive letter and /media/my_sd_card/documents with whatever directory you want to access from Dosbox.

Thanks Caine this should really help.

Unfortunately, I do not have my Pandora with me at this time [ not home, on the laptop and forgetting to take one of my Pandy beasts with me].

I will not be able to use the advice given until tonight EST. USA.

I know I did download 2 Dosbox's = Dosbox and Dosbox EX.

Never been able to master this one. Totally not used to this particular format for retrieving games.

Hatari and Vice64 have been the hardest emulators for me to get somewhat correct. Took me a long time but I succeeded. This seems somewhat similar.??

I have trouble with the games that require one to 'run commands' since that format has never crossed my path before now.

never used floppy discs in my youth.

I will post my results tonight.

Thanks again.

Well I can tell you what is driving this old man crazy.

I cannot enter the commands properly. For example I cannot type _ for a command with DosBox or DosBox Fe.

Normally when pressing FN i can 100% of the time.

I know they are installed properly. I have a Dos game pack with 32 games in it = pandora/appdata/dosbox/games....i also have the folders images, ing and res.

This is a weird one for me .

Some games are....chicken invaders, commander keen 1-6, another world, bumpy's arcade beaker...many more.

I have 2 Pandoras and the same on both only some different games on the other.

Bloody hell. You're right. The keyboard is horribly broken in Dosbox on the Pandora (I hadn't tried on the Pandora yet). The [ : ] doesn't work either. That's a pretty important one.

DosBox uses the old DOS keyboard mappings. It's less intuitive unless you have the keyboard memorized but there's no easy way to fix it.

This is crazy.

i am lost.

I feel like HELEN KELLER only with all my senses supposedly.

FN SHIFT H .....fixes it??

No, as I said there is no easy way to fix it. It's because DosBox uses the old DOS keyboard mappings.

Look at the keyboard on your desktop. In order to type a ':' you press "shift ;"

You must do the same thing on the Pandora. In order to get a ';' you must press "Fn <", so to get a ':' you press "Shift Fn <"

To get a '_' on your desktop, you press "shift -". You must do the same on the Pandora, "Fn D" gives a '-', so "Shift Fn D" will give a '_'

"Shift Fn H" will give you a '~' character.

I love it how the abbreviation for the Function key makes it look like you're swearing.

"Shift Fn H" looks like you're describing Shift-H to someone who's just pissed you off. :D

(I'll contribute something more useful once I have my Pandora, I promise)

I really hope you can keep that promise.

Please PM me when you do??

This is something I would look forward to.
