im making a frontend for the GP32 modded DevKitAdvance using C++ with DJGPP.
what im aiming to do is make it so you wont have to use the command line...

any suggestions?

All i can say is that would be a gr8 help for me i seem to have no end of troubles getting things set up when it comes to devkits.... and then it makes me lose interest because nothing ever compiles correctly more than once

itll be awhile before i finish, so here are some tips:

if you dont want to mess with autoexec just copy the program you need into your folder and run it from there.

move any DLLs that came with the devkit into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM(W2K users: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32) directory.

once you change autoexec make sure you run it to update the settings.

you can drag and drop file and folder names into the command prompt.

install the devkit into the reccomended directory.

The DevC++ IDE (here) works very well with DevKitAdv (and GP32 patches).

I keep meaning to write a 'How To' on configuring it to get all the compiler setup from within the IDE however it really is not that hard to do.

Via a few fudges it does an amiable job of being a front-end to the ADS compiler (I really hate CodeWorrier ;)). Again, I really should do a 'How To' for that.

Once you have your DevKit setup and working there should be little to go wrong. Things only (IMHO) get messy with you start adding extra libs such as SDL into the mix (extra includes outside the normal folders etc.) or start to move code from compilers (GCC to ADS etc.).

Having said all that a GUI config tool would be very nice. Keep up the good work :D.

current features to be included:

easy to use GUI
option to save and load information for GXB to FXE
compile programs using your selection of compiler
possibly a text editor for quick changes

What about syntax completion, code colouring and intergration with help files in the same way as MSDN in VC++? You could use Scintilla from Scintilla.org for the text editing and code highlighting.

I have been working on a complete programmers help resource combining all the documents I can find with information regarding GP32 programming. As yet I haven't contacted anyone whose documents I have used, this will obviously come before I make it available to people. Basically it is an HTMl library with tutorials, the API references, explanation of file types, some info on ARM assembler etc. If anyone has any usefull docs or would like to contribute then please contact me. :D

ill consider that for v2.

right now im just trying to get it to work :p

estimated time until completion: 3 days - 1 month

i have run into some trouble. i need a text blitting routine, but using a library will bloat the size and coding one will take forever. so, i have these choices:

make a textblit function - will take a LONG time, possibly buggy.

use Allegro or something - bloated file size.

use Visual Basic - ugh, VB.

use Multimedia Fusion - bloated file, but best GUI and fastest dev time.

what should i do? is there another way?
