The post below appeared originally in the "Losing My Love for My Pandora"-thread. Since it was starting to derail the original thread, the discussion following it has been split into this new thread. (_wb_)

Apple iPod and iPad allows you to connect to Outlook Exchange easily.  Can this be done on the Pandora?  If so, how to do it.  I may "fall in love again" if this can be done on the Pandora as I will use it for my work instead of just playing video games  :D

Hummm...I have web-based email so I can get it right on a browser, no need for any mail program, Outlook, Claws or anything else.

But it would be nice if Claws COULD fetch web-based email so that I didn't have to open a whole frickin browser just to grab my email on the fly.

Check your provider's help section - many web based providers offer pop3 or IMAP support that Claws might be able to grab.
D.

Whoever you get your webmail from will have the information you need.

I get it from my own personal domain. The host is HostGator, the supplier is Daily Razor.

Should I ne going thru Daily Razor to get the info I need? I do not think HostGator would have the info I needed, as they are just the host.

I'm not really good with a lot of this network stuff...a friend of mine set me up with this stuff a while back, like five years ago, and I just pay the bills when they come, lol.

Very nice, I shall have to try this.

thank you.

hummm...

SSL handshake failed. whatever the f*** that means.

I guess I can't use this.

damn.

I have it set to mail.XXXXXXX.com:110

Changed configuration to not use SSL and it works, but this is not a good idea.

Anyone help me get it working RIGHT?

OK that was weird...

It downloaded all the mail I had saved in my folder on my computer, and marked them all "read" - I had a bunch of emails I had left on there and marked unread intentionally.

I hope this is just because it was the first time, I hope this isn't going to happen every time I use Claws Mail!! I do not need it to download what's already in the folders on my system...just the NEW stuff ONLY...and it should also leave that NEW stuff on the system, so that it can later be put into my laptop.

In the first download it is normal that the client plays "Gotta Catch 'Em All!"

I never used Claws Mail, but the selection to leave mails on the server should be in the account configuration, somewhere near to the the POP3 server and port settings, maybe on the bottom or in a near tab...

About the SSL connection, if you followed LITERALLY what was listed you should not have problem...

If you want to use SSL you need to specify settings below in your mail client:

POP3S server: mail.yourdomain.com port 995

IMAPS server: mail.yourdomain.com port 993

SMTPS server: mail.yourdomain.com port 465

For both SSL and non-SSL:

- SMTP authentication should be enabled.

- You should use full mailbox name as username.
Anyway there was already an old suspicious comment, never answered:

I'm guessing that SSL is not enabled, going by the port numbers, but could you please state explicitly in this article if SSL is available or not?

Many thanks.
In that case you should contact directly the provider to know if SSL is a service they offers or not...

Ha!  Worked nice for my Gmail using this method, but not Microsoft Exchange.  Thanks!

I set up POP3 with port 110 like the Daily Razor page said. Now you're telling me port 995?

I could try that.

Oh, crap, never mind. I read further down...

See how stupid I am with this stuff?

By the way, is there a way to make the Claws window full screen smaller? My toolbar in the bottom of the screen blocks all the buttons to click, I had to randomly guess when my TAB stopped at the right place to proceed with setup, I was doing it blind.

that or make the toolbar go away for a while and then come back?

I didn't use POP3 or set any port for my gmail.  I used IMAP and it's been working fine for me.

I have the same problem in Claws Mail as you do regarding the the inability to see all the buttons to click at the bottom.

Don't delete any mail off your claws mail client. And check to make sure they're still on the server by going back to your web mail. I don't know how claws handles it, but I know outlook by default downloads emails and then deletes them from the server (a terrible, terrible, awful, evil default if there ever was one)

Well it makes less sense in this day and age when most people have at least 2 devices that they check mail from, but times have changed.  In a situation where you only check mail from one device (which would have been the norm when that default was selected) and there is a limited amount of server space available  (again,  less of an issue these days)  it actually makes a lot of sense to do it that way.
