As I was thinking about to build an own case for my pandora, I quickly sumpled upon battery questions:

1. What range of capacity is supported by the loading electronic

2. How much logic is build in the battery? Just the temp sensor or more?

The capacity is configured to be 4200mah by default but the circuit is smart enough that it will adapt over time, or you can even force it to recalibrate if you put a battery of different capacity in.

The battery itself has only a temperature sensor and a hard cut off circuit when it hits about 2.8 volts or so, nothing fancy. All the logic is in the TWL chip. Even the temperature is just a thermistor fed into the TWL which decides what to do with it. If you get a different battery without either the termistor or the automatic cut off it won't kill anything, just know that you are at (very minor, provided all other safety precautions are taken) risk of your battery overheating or being overused.

not in a kind of scetches or dawings. More like some rought thoughts based on the idea, that I'll use the pandora more as a mini Linux Computer san as a gaming console (My path to a mobile device because anything esle fails for my by different reasons, such as adroid, iWAHTEVER, nokia maemo line).

Some points I think about:

-some fiber reinforced resin (http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/15036-carbon-fibre-case-considerations/)

-battery must'n be toolless removable, because I expect to change it just when it's defect. Which makes the case, a) easier to build and B) smoother to look.

-not sure about the hinge.. (First idea some sort of tighten a screw or something, so you can "fix" it in any position...

From the "fixed" battery I hope to be able to reduce the hight a bit.

What I could use are brocken parts (board/screen/cable) to do some packaging, without destroying my pandora (already messed up the microphone...)

lets stay with the battery in this thread. I'll open a new one for the case itself (any hints in which forum it's placed best?)

Are the thermistor and the cut-off circuit parts, I could get from any supplier and do they need calibration?

Alternatively one could use the old circuits from dead pandora batteries, right? (need an idea how to get some..)

But thanks for mentioning interest.

They are built into the battery. When you design your battery you'll need to have whomever you're working with to build it add them; it's a standard process. If you are just planning to build your own battery pack from lithium cells then I wouldn't even bother with them, too much work for no gain.

Since this thread is here, I may as well ask - what's the battery pinout? I'm considering building a dummy battery, as my Pandora isn't fortunate enough to run off the charger with no battery in.

@mclien Most previous hardware hacks have been announced in general talk. Seems we're missing an official hardware section.
