Hi,
I just read in an older thread that there were some people who wanted to translate the game to English. Since I can read quite a bit of Korean, I would be willing to help out. My question though, is, is it *technically* possible? Ie. is the text changeable more or less easily in the compiled version? If someone could tell me a few details about that, I'd appreciate it, thanks!

if your os can read korean characters (not only your inet browser) and if your hex editor can also do it, and maybe the program thingy too and if you can write korean characters to make table files, yes it should be possible.

edit: except if the letters are all special skilled compressed like in golden sun for gba; that would require some elite asm skillz (at least i heard so).

if its not even possible, why not start to translate the game anyway?

You could then distribute the translated dialogue in a text format with instructions saying who said what and when.

People would then be able to print out this translation and carry it with them whilst playing.

If you could translate the entire game, I'm sure somebody would take it upon themselves to sort it out with the real game at a later date if possible.

Yup thats a good idea if you just start translating it and writing it down, i am sure we will be able to get someone to make a patch.

And plus you will become a GP32 God who will be praised and revered by all manking :p

No but seriously if you do this you will be the man. :D

You know thats true and a good idea.

If they didn't compress the text, it may be possible to fit replacement text right in place. It would have to be the same size in bytes, and I think Enligh is more compact than Korean (since Korean is multibyte?) So if a 50 character text turne dinto 20, it'd still have to take up 50 bytes, but you'd pad it out with blanks. The harder part is dealing with English that is larger.

For that, you could just insert "See message 37" perhaps, and have a textfile of the mappings. Then in the future, maybe someone will be able to rebuild a binary with all the translatoins in it, or make an auxiliar program that replaces it live on the device in runtime, or other evil tricks..

So even if not possible in the main binary, it would be cool to have some text. I keep meaning ot play it, but don't have the heart without knowing whats going on :)

Yeahh!!! this idea is fantastic :) at less it would let us prgress in a smoother way & understand abit the scenary (which is imo quite important in a RPG) ;p

I admit I have gave it up coz it's in Korean, but I would come back to it if we got some translations in any way possible ;p

well, it IS possible, tere is a litle french (i think it was french) patch, but doesent translate anything but some items, so, please, go on. if I could do something to help i would, but i cant read Korean nor progaming, si I think i can only say: you are th man!, i beg you, please, do it!!!
:D if you decide to translate, well... THIS are news :D

it most probably uses unicode and isn't compressed out of lazyness. :p shouldn't be TOO hard to hack. if we're lucky the script is stored in separate files too. i'd have a poke at it but i don't want to risk neither my or anyone elses money by buying it and then giving up way too early. which is what i tend to do.

if my sentences make no sense, it's probably because of the sleep deprivation.

Flame me if you want, but you don't have to buy if you are only going to look around it. Now if ytou were going to keep it, then you would buy it.

Hi,

well alright - When I get some money in a few days, I'll order it and take a look at it. Your suggestion just to write down the translation at the beginning indeed looks like a good idea :)
I hope I will have the patience to throughoutly translate it and won't lose interest, hehe. But I guess this is some kind of responsibility so I will try my best :)

You'll hear from me soon...

EDIT: What could get a bit tiresome is reading the sentences from such a small, unlighted (Which my GP is) screen all the time. Not to mention I will have to play through it, but it looks like a good game so I hope I will get through it without getting frustrated. But I'll try :)

Oh, and did you know that the game is out for the PC in Korea too? But it's a whole CD! So I wonder what the differences are...Cutscenes? High-quality music?

If the game's Game-CONTENT is EXACTLY the same on BOTH pc and GP32, I can order the PC version and translate it based on that. Would be much easier. For my eyes, primarily, hehe.

yes, that's why it would be a lot easier if someone who had the game could hack around a bit in its files and dump the script. anyone here who has ASR and has done some basic romhacking before?

again great idea if you manage to dump the script from the pc version give it to me and i will try getting others to work on it aswell.

If we all pitch in it shouldn't take too long and if you manage to dump it you wont have play through the game.

There was a guy named blaine0002 who started translating ASR (but he didnt know korean) maybe you could finish what he started.

Well Lethe, if I manage to get some editable data out of the PC version, I could try sending it to you, and you could take a look at it :)

the PC version isn't the same game AFAIK

there are 3 Astonisha Story games, 1 for PC, 1 for GP32 and I tink the other was fr Saturn

but they are different stories and such
