Hi,

Is it just me, or does your GP32's also make that "click" sound when using joystick? I've got my GP32 a few days ago and I'm really happy with it so far (just try Frodo with Giana Sisters :), but that clicking noise when using the directional pad gets annoying. Also, I have the feeling the pad is not 100% accurate. Do you guys know of any way to change/improve that?

Thanks!

Its just cause it uses a digital stick rather than a normal d-pad like you find on the GBA, so as the buttons press your gonna get the click (reminds me of the old Amiga zip sticks :D)

Its also very accurate, being digital, only reason you might find it not is that it IS very sensitive (that stick again), But once you get used to it, youll find it soo much better than the GBA type which kills your thumb after a few hours of use!

Yeah, I'm not saying it's bad or anything, maybe I'll get used to it in a few days. Just that clicking sound really sucks. If I knew a way how to stop that...

I have a solution to this problem, its a very trickey solution are requires lots of technical knowledge

find black dial for volume control, increase until noise disappears

I think the clicking is a good sign that the joystick is actually conecting with the terminals and that you're going in the direction you want to be. GBA D-pads suck ar$e!!!!

Remember those old IBM keyboard that game that loud CLICK sound whenever you pressed a button? They used microswitches.

Guess what else does? =P

Little bit of trivia for you if you didn't already know...

The Joystick can be changed, just pull it and it comes out, gamepark make 2 other ones that i know of, but i suspect they all click :)

You should sell these Craig :p when me and Doss coloured ours we went and tried giving the buttons/control a different colour... disaster, had to rub it off them (tho the casing looks great) and the control sticks a mess noo with wee scratches, so id buy um :p heh

Yup. Pull the d-pad off and try to move the tiny white stick inside. It clicks :) So any replacement is likely to click as well.

Then again I always get 'absorbed' into the game, a conversation or the music so the click doesn't bother me.

Also, my L and R buttons click
a strange click also
The L button clicks sharply, and the R button click dully, how can i fix it?

=D

Sorry to rebring this up..

I also HATE the clicking noises. Does anyone have any links or pics of a hardware mod to remove it?

Thanks! :)

Just remove the stick with a sharp, upward motion. No more click.

Yeah, you can mod the joystick to not click, though it will suck. On my old c64 I had some really good microswitched joysticks which clicked, and a really crappy one that didn't.

Here is the background:
A microswitch is a very small digital switch which is usualyy on when pressed in, and off when released again. The 'click' is heard both when the button is pressed and released. A microswitch is very accurate and gives a good contact every time.

My crappy joystick - get this - had screws as the contacts on one side (attached to the base) and a thin sheet metal ring attached to the stick. Pulling the stick over tilted the ring to touch one of the screws (for each direction). This was extremely crap.

So the mod:
Open the GP, rip out the microswitches. Find the terminals of the switch. Attach a small piece of tinfoil to each of the 4 main directions of the stick, and attach one of the terminals to the foil. Place another piece of foil where the microswitch was, and attach the other terminal to this.

Hopefully if you have done it correctly, the GP is rendered useless, you will feel like an idiot, and the clicking will have stopped.

Thank dog for microswitches.

I was kinda thinking it would be nice if it could be done, too. It's awfully quiet during finals, and I hate using the joystick when I'm done and everyone else is testing.... don't want to annoy the heck out of everyone, ya know :)

I agree its pretty loud. I remember I couldn't play it in the Lecture theatres in university unless I wanted everyone to stare at me like this  hehe

When I first got my GP32, I hated the joystick, I found the click a little annoying and felt it was too sensative.
It took me about a week to get used to it, and now I fell it's one of the best I have ever used :)
I'm sure GPhreak will love the joystick after playing with it a while. Try playing doom for a couple of hours, you will totally forget about the clicking
