What about OpenBSD? Or even Plan 9, which has some (slightly) more modern forks like 9front? I'm personally planning to port both OpenBSD and 9front to the Pyra.

I'd also recommend http://cat-v.org and the 9front operating system (or openbsd if 9front is too unconventional for your needs). I'm typing this from mothra on 9front, and also planning to get 9front running on the pyra. Anybody else interested or willing to help?
