Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

Some of it was part of my thinking, on a national level it wouldn't have mattered if one company made a loss and another an equally large profit, but I realize that individual companies would have mattered more in the US. I would however have though some sort of standards body would have been...

Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

I began writing this thinking your statement was mostly bullshit, after reading up on it, I see what you mean, though I don't agree with your simplification of the reasons why the GSM committee was formed. Eh, well... The US was definitely first with wireless/radio/0G phones, and most of the...

Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

You can set that up when you order yes, it's part of the order process, on it's own page. It will look like this: [/spoiler]

Type of case for futur docking station?

This is something I very much intend to build myself, but if it can be bought from ED's shop in kit form or whatnot, I would much prefer to buy parts like these from there, if nothing else to support the shop. Thank you! I've been wondering the same thing (on these forums and others).

    Bugs and Calculations

I wouldn't mind 3G speed-wise, but keep in mind that at least in Europe, 3G is sort of on the way out, at least in some places. (I hear the reverse is true in Asia and the US, 2G getting shut down in favour of 3G and 4G) Tele2 in Norway is shutting down their 3G network in 2020 and indications...

    Hardware license terms

Yes, that's the new drm, but what I haven't been able to find is the original open vivante drm sources (no vivante tree in the repository as far as I can see), the ones that are supposed to be along the lines of 60.000 lines of code mentioned in...

    Hardware license terms

Ah I see i was a bit too hasty in my searching, when I first searched I couldn't find any statement that it (kernel driver / firmware blob) was actually open (so I assumed closed), neither could I find any actual code. But I see now the kernel driver is open, still can't find the sources though...

    Hardware license terms

Huh, I though the gcw-zero still used the firmware blob for the GPU and only the userspace driver was open? Edit: Yup, the kernel driver is still closed according to the wiki ( http://wiki.surkow.com/OpenGL )

    Total madness!

Man I have to say I'm a bit bummed that I didn't catch the pre-order voucher, my €€€ is burning a Pyra-shaped hole in my piggy-bank. Oh well life will hopefully go on, I guess... :P So let me get this straight - When the prototypes are done and been confirmed to work as intended, the real...

Will there be any anti-theft protection in Pyra?

Perhaps just replace the initial boot screen image (if any) with the text "This device has been stolen or lost, contact me at [whatever] for a finders fee". That way you increase your chances of getting the device back, though you may have to pay the finder fee, but it's better than not getting...

State of the Open Pandora: a few questions

I am in need of a UMPC; This market seems to have imploded by pressure of android tablets, smartphones and 10/11" netbooks.  Does the Pandora fit in? Especifically, can you read PDFs, send e-mails, do basic programming on the move efficiently? I'd say you can program semi-efficently, My hands...

    Vibrating Pyra?

I'm a hobbyist electronics guy and have been since I was 13, and have had the dubious honour to repair quiet a few of my friends electronic gadgets, and among them are two or three dualshock playstation controllers, where the vibration motors stopped working (because one of the wires breaks)...

    Best way to say "GNU/Linux"

I pronounce it like Lee-nu-x, with a long-low u like in you. I almost never add the gnu/ in conversations, unless I know it's a person who has a strong opinion on whether or not to call it gnu/linux.

    More donations through lottery

If I happened to decide to donate one weekend and there was a lottery going on, it would buy one, but it would not make me any more inclined to donate more money. And as Znirk stated, it wouldn't sound good outside this forum. Now, I haven't donated yet, but I just had an idea; I'm probably...

WiFi mysteries resolved once and for all — Power saving is clearly the culprit!

If there is an easier way of reverting back from the new driver (whole kernel?) other than reflashing, i'd be willing to do some further tests.
