    Yay some news!

Mixing is basically just adding samples together, so not really a hard task for such CPU, even if it needs to do it 48000 times per sedond. Don't know about the conversion though.

    Stop the sirring noise!

    You sir, stop that noise!

Finding the noisy coil. I'm not a hardware expert (I merely designed some hardware), but I have two ideas: 1. Sirring coil is often indication of unstable DC-DC converter, or converter working in burst mode. Since it happens after connecting a USB device, the burst mode is not likely the case. I...

I wish you could feel things through the internet!

Sorry for the delay, I haven't been near computer for the weekend. No. Because I'm tired of failing Pandora cables (after the first one failed, I bought the supposedly better one, that shouldn't be prone to that issue, and guess what - it starts failing too) and I would like Pyra to do better...

No, it wouldn't be hard. See these pictures. The wire thickness is 0.25mm, only slightly more than of the flex tape. The wires bunched together have 2mm diameter. That's 3,14mm2 field of section. The hole between the PCB and the case is about 5,5x1,3mm = 7,15mm2, judging from the adjacent...

I wish you could feel things through the internet!

If the flex end connector fits through, I don't see why that connector wouldn't. The flex cable has some thick plastic glued to the end to help it fit to the board connector. That makes the end similarly or even less flexible than the end of the cable I posted. You cannot bend the flat cable...

@EvilDragon, why are you still sticking to the faulty flex cables instead of something a lot better? All recent laptops I happened to look into had a thick (~4mm diameter) cable made of tens of tiny wires. I have never experienced any of them failing. They usually have not-so-small connectors...

    Holidays are over!

Have you considered selling Pyra as a self-assembly kit? I would be much interested in such thing if I finally come up to buying one (it's not an easy decision financially). I think not even a detailed assembly instruction would be necessary. A video like this would be perfectly fine.

    Parts, Boards and the Rotator

Thanks for the explanation. I had something similar in one of my Android devices (never used that since, perhaps it's in newer versions too): there was a curve of backlight response to the ambient light level, and I could quite easily set my preferred brightness for any sensor value. But I was...

    Parts, Boards and the Rotator

I can remember when you have said about the rotator chip for the first time, one of its functions was to reduce power consumption (by updating the screen only when needed, not all the time). At least that's what the manufacturer has been telling. Was that particular feature unusable for Pyra, or...

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

I listen to about five 1,5~3-hour podcasts per week, and I had the same problem until I discovered this option in deadbeef: Preferences -> Playback tab -> Resume previous session on startup. It works every time. Only two times in half of a year I had situation that deadbeef lost all of its...

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

I use a simpler solution: I close deadbeef before starting anything requiring audio. Deadbeef remembers its playlist and playing position between runs (I'm not sure if that doesn't need to be enabled in settings).

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

Thanks for the explanation. I guess that means the power consumption in suspend is a bit higher because of that. So nothing to worry about.

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

A side-issue: only after watching the pndevmapperd output I have noticed this message: /usr/pandora/scripts/op_power.sh: line 247: echo: write error: operation not permitted Line 247 in my op_power script reads "echo mem > /sys/power/state" I think it's the line that makes the Pandora enter...

Should be enough. It's not a user preference, but rather an emergency aid in the end.

Did you make the option to switch between new and old behaviour?

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

I did not like it too, but I couldn't find any reference specs for EVIOCGxxx ioctls, and that was the only example I found that I was able to comprehend :) Done, the script attached. Seems to be working fine. I don't know about tv-out. I don't have the cable to test. Is it affected by "echo 0...

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

Ah, you're right. I have upgraded to the newest firmware, but haven't tested again if the screen would stay on forever. I only saw that the shoulder buttons turn the screen on regardless of the lid position, and assumed the backlight persistence has not been fixed too (and haven't found any...

Trying to fix the backlight bug...

_jr_, thanks. It's vt2 actually. By the way: is that normal that Ctrl+Alt+(Fn)+Fx don't work on Pandora? I had to "sudo chvt -t 2". sulu, I understand that the op_power.sh is called on various events, one of which is changing the lid state. My program, "lidstate", on the other hand, calls the...
