Jxd S7100, The "caanoo" We've Been Dreaming Of?

Yeah, looks are a good reason for buying a hand held device. I'm sure fans of the SNES and PS1 would give up game compatibility just to get the occasional "hey wait, what IS that?" reaction from someone.

Can The Caanoo Cpu Be Set To Run Dynamically?

On the PSP there's a plugin called CWCheat which includes this function (it's also a cheat engine). It monitors cpu load and decides whether to underclock, overclock, or stay put. It includes an .ini file which can be tweaked to the user's preferences. With it enabled, 2D games tend to run in...

So Why Did I Buy This Caanoo Again?

I wouldn't put the Caanoo's SNES and GBA ports in the freakin' awesome category. Granted, they work for the most part, but passable with heavy overclocking seems like a better description. High quality console emulation on the Caanoo seems to peak with the Neo Geo\Genesis. After that it's a...

So Why Did I Buy This Caanoo Again?

I'd also be disappointed if I'd bought a Caanoo, but I don't think I'd take it out on any of you. Perhaps the OP was swayed into buying one based on some overzealous comments he read on this forum and elsewhere. For example, reading comments like "99% SNES compatibility" sounds great to...

Right, because only those without principles run custom firmware on their PSPs. Perhaps what you meant to say was, "My principles just don't allow it".

Because I prefer using AVC with Sony's video player over Xvid\Divx.

    Caanoo Or Psp?

Sony's reduced the ghosting issues each time they've updated the PSP, so naturally, the PSP-1000 is going to have it the worst. With 0 frameskip, the PSP-2000 has little to no ghosting with most games. Perhaps you can see a minimal amount in a side by side test with another device, but it's so...

    Caanoo Or Psp?

From what I gather, the Wiz has better vsync than the Caanoo, but I've seen reports of diagonal tearing on the Wiz. I also disagree that screen tearing is preferable over frameskip 1. Frameskip 1 introduces a small amount of ghosting, which isn't quite as apparent as tearing, imo. Even so...

    Snes Performance: Wiz Vs. Psp

Good question. You don't have to take my word for it, but the time sample is a few dozen hours over a period of weeks. I've also beaten over a half dozen games so far with no issues. That's not exactly enough time to beat every game, but it's enough to know that you can leave it enabled most...

Yes, with the PMP Mod media player. It also supports .srt subtitles. Also, re-encoding to .mp4 is quick and easy with PSP Video Converter.

You have more than one handheld, which puts you in a different category altogether. Why worry about what one does when you can have both or several? For those interested in only one handheld, unless the person's a passionate homebrew hobbyist, the reasons favoring the PSP outnumber those for...

    Snes Performance: Wiz Vs. Psp

PSP accel + Accurate isn't necessary for most games as all it does is slow down emulation with little to no benefit. Which emulator are you using? You may also be using a slow emulator. Try s9xTYLmecm 091127 with the following settings as default: Video Engine: PSP accel + approx soft Hack...

So Why Did I Buy This Caanoo Again?

To the OP: If you don't like your Caanoo, you could always sell it on eBay. At least then you could recoup some of your losses.

The problem with a joystick is that it's still a clumsy joystick even with dead zones, but without them, it's a useless joystick.

    Caanoo Or Psp?

I forgot about that USB feature. That is definitely an added plus for the Caanoo. Perfect may have been a poor word choice since there are some known issues with POPS, but I'd estimate that emulation and speed are well over the 90% barrier. In other words, it matches or surpasses most well...

I wonder if the recent news regarding the PSP Vita's specs acted as the proverbial straw that broke the c.amel's back. This is only a theory, but if GPH were on the fence about releasing a new system in a couple years, I could see where the Vita would discourage them. With sales down as they...

    Caanoo Or Psp?

If MAME and homebrew are important to you, then the Caanoo may be the better option. If superior SNES emulation, superior GBC\GBA emulation, perfect PS1 emulation, and PSP game library are important to you, then the PSP may be the better option. Other factors: + PSP 2000 and up have the best...

Understood, but when I responded to your original post, the discussion escalated from one about not wanting to jump through hoops to one about personal ethics and legality (sebt3), neither of which were brought up by me. I don't mind discussing those things. I don't even mind the personal...

Hacked firmwares aren't all too different from emulation. Each attempt to circumvent restrictions, with emulation attempting to bypass host hardware, and hacked firmware attempting to bypass software locks.
