I had the same problem with exfat formatted sd cards.
Some apps would not start with sd card formatted as exfat but after I reformatted as fat32 it started working.
Maybe it tried to reboot. That sometimes happens to me if I try to reboot it once it turns off it does not boot back up and the power button does nothing. I do the samething that TrashyMG said and take out the battery and it boots back up.

All my phones I ever had have always had a bad compass so I had to calibrate it everytime I opened Google maps.
Nothing seemed to change in the dmesg. ran dmesg before and after inserting usb device and got the samething.

Tried reflashing os with https://packages.pyra-handheld.com/rootfs/buster/pyra-38-install.img.7z
But that did not fix it still sometimes boots with USB and 4g modem broken.
Also the system won't reboot everything seems to turn off but nothing happens.
If I try to push the power button nothing...
Tried restarting it but it still gives error. The other USB port works the micro USB 3.0. the esata adaptor works but I can't test got wrong cable it has different connector.

Turning it on today I saw the USB ports were working. But after turning it off and back on again they stopped...
I've tried pluging in different stuff but nothing happens.

I've always use GeneralUser GS SoundFont with FluidSynth or TiMidity++ depending on what I have access to.
