    SoC: Back and forth!

Not sure if it's been posted already, but looks like a Snapdragon 800 devboard is available: https://developer.qualcomm.com/mobile-development/development-devices/dragonboard

Look here! Another Pandora 2 poll just for you!

Meanwhile Craig is laughing at this ordeal while secretly designing the Pandora 2 entirely from microSD cards. EDIT: Thinking more on it, microSD cards DO tend to contain entire 32-bit ARM microcontrollers (cite: http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?page_id=1022), so I suppose one could in...

Pandora with microSD - will you buy it?

True, it's not that large in comparison, but I've taken my Pandora apart numerous times to do unspeakable things to it, and to me it seems there is not nearly enough room to fit anything even as small as a microSD slot internally without taking something off the board. Much of the total volume...

Pandora with microSD - will you buy it?

Actually more like 4x the room, judging by the cards sitting on my desk in front of me, and by this picture. http://upload.wikime...oryCard_002.jpg But what about my MemoryStick collection??? =P I believe there are microSD slots similar to SIM card holders that flip open ike a clamshell...

Ouya - Android based open gaming console

True, but Craig has had a lot of time to learn a lot of lessons about what it really costs to make a small console-like computer. If the people behind Ouyo can pull it off, good for them, but the price seems a bit low for what they're planning...

Ouya - Android based open gaming console

Slightly off-topic to the thread, but will this project and the hype over it on KS have any effects on the eventual Project 3 KS? Not sure it they're similar but all the hints seem to point toward something nearby.

    Pandora 2 specifications and price

If the system will have a large amount of memory, then it would be feasible to load the entire operating system into a ramdisk, in which case the speed of the OS-card, be it a microSD card inside the device, would be entirely irrelevant, and the ramdisk read/write speeds would be far faster than...

Test-Run of the 1GHz Pandoras happens today (2012-07-05)

Not only did the building catch fire and explode, but the resulting chaos caused Germany to go to war with Russia, and all of Europe was wiped out by a giant volcano... =P

Pandora with microSD - will you buy it?

As far as I can tell from some searching and research, seems like fullSD and microSD have similar read/write speeds. The major difference and downside of microSD cards is that fullSD always seems to have at least twice the maximum capacity at any given time.

    Pandora 2 specifications and price

Yeah, after doing some more in depth searching, it looks like the newer MIPS64 SoCs comparable to ARMv8 will be released about the same time as the latter, so there's really no point in considering a switch between the architectures. EDIT: There might not be a need to move to a 64-bit arch...

    Pandora 2 specifications and price

Looks like if Craig is really committed to a 64-bit arch to allow for more than 4GB of RAM, there are existing MIPS64 SoCs on the market at the moment, such as: http://www.broadcom....siness/BCM1125H Downside is that switching to the MIPS arch would break compatibility with all existing...

Pandora with microSD - will you buy it?

Not sure if it has been mentioned already... Both microSD and SD cards are based around standard flash chips, and last I recall a full sized SD card can hold 2 ICs while a microSD has space for only 1. Assuming both are based on the latest memory chips, the fullSD card will always have at...

    Design discussion

Pretty much anything that would need a fan for cooling would eat up a 14.8W-h battery (Pandora 1 battery) in around an hour. Unless the device were made bigger, to allow for a bigger battery...

    Pandora 2 specifications and price

Just from scanning the thread it looks as though he wants at least one full-SD card slot wherever it is on the device, and was only considering not buying it if it ONLY had microSD.

Pandora with microSD - will you buy it?

Why not have full-SD slots with the capability of a mechanical adapter to miniSD or microSD? Which is what we have right now, and it gives the most options instead of tying everyone to microSD. Unless, of course, the design is short on space such that microSD would really make a difference.

    ARM Mali GPU ?

Doesn't the Samsung Exynos 5 series have Mali GPUs along with A-15 cores? That gets my vote.

    CPU Podule

Not sure if related, but first thing that popped into my mind when reading this was: http://elinux.org/Embedded_Open_Modular_Architecture/EOMA-68 Basically a CPU/GPU/supporting components on a heavily modified PC-Card (completely different interface, connector is only commonality), such that...

    microSDXC, SDXC, and mixed configurations

Since this is still theoretical, what about other memory card standards like CompactFlash or XQD, which would both be faster than SDXC speeds and also expose a more versatile bus for other non memory-related IO? Well, aside from them not being as common as SD I suppose.

Please Delete:Radical Hardware Idea for Pandora 2(Outdated 2/22/2012)

As for having a new mould for a new case for the demo unit, why not just do a 3D-printed version for demo purposes similar to the original Pandora case?
