How Are All The Linux Newbies Coping?

If I had a netbook or a secondary laptop I didn't care about using right away, I'd commit myself to going through the motions of putting Arch on it. As long as I'd have at least two other computers with set-it-and-forget-it operating systems (and internet connections) I'd be willing to...

How Are All The Linux Newbies Coping?

How I was introduced to Linux: http://nostarch.com/ubuntu4.htm Good for familiarizing yourself with modern Linux, though Ubuntu is slightly different from the Pandora's OS. I find it really helps to have the "projects" laid out instead of just poking around aimlessly. Eased me into it nicely...

We Will Have An Answer To Youtube On Pandora -- Webm.

VP8 doesn't have to be better, or even as good, as h.264. Not today, not tomorrow. I'm just satisfied that it's apparently better than Theora (the only other Free alternative). This really ups the baseline of open video to more modern levels, possibly beyond what Theora is even theoretically...

    The Humble Indie Bundle

I like that the Linux side makes up about 1/4 of the total dollar amount, even more than OS X users. Considering that Linux is often put around %1 of the OS marketshare, that's really saying something. :) Looks like the average contribution has also gone up almost a dollar since the start of...

    The Humble Indie Bundle

Well I didn't want to make a thread in here since I knew none of this (currently) run on the Pandora's hardware, but I'm totally geeked out over this sale! I love the Name-Your-Price system, I love the lack of DRM, and I love supporting two worthy organizations AND independent developers AND...

    Irrmaple

I'm here to lend my moral support! because I love the MapleStory concept, just kinda hated the grind... Just to be on the safe side, though, you might want to think of some alternative names for the project. I have no idea how possessive Wizet is about their trademarks, but it's possible they...

Will Java Run (Well) On A Pandora?

    I think they're using Midori as default, it's GTK+.

At the same time I'm glad it ships with a bloated desktop environment (okay, so Xfce isn't that bloated...). Gives me something more familiar to work with!

Since you brought up the stock clocks and software decoding, does overclocking help with the HD video as a work-around? Could someone push it up to 650-700MHz and expect it to put out smooth 720p through the TV-Out? I know there's probably a lot of people who'd like to see some Infinity engine...

Use Open Source? You're A Pirate!

These same companies? Really? Yes, it's stupid and hypocritical for an industry group that makes its living by defending intellectual property rights to balk at FOSS (especially when it's used as a remedy for piracy), but let's not get carried away here.

I've become terribly allergic to anything with the word "App" prefixed to it. It's a virus of the mind.

    New To Pandora

Ubuntu comes on a CD or DVD, which you can use to run it without installing anything to your harddrive. It's great for trying things out first. In fact you could probably just keep the CD handy and run it whenever you want to learn something specific about using Linux, then pop it out when...

    Sd Card Search

You should know to never trust SD cards you find on e-Bay, they're often a ripoff. Newegg is where I go to shop online, they generally have a great selection with good prices, and in my experience good customer service.

Tv Out With Panodra Folded Closed

I've used the Wiimote as a mouse under Linux with just the accelerometer data for positioning. It was a little clumsy and slow, but it worked fine as an "air mouse." The drivers and GUI for setting up the wiimote shouldn't be too difficult even if they're not in the Angstrom repositories.
