Lets start making the helper gadgets

I mean I have written my personal wiki that I use daily in Godot engine and it was ready to use ten times as fast as when I tried in Qt. I'm completely in favor of writing stuff in game engines. I don't want to decide anything, I wanted to gather opinions and maybe setup a git when enough...

Lets start making the helper gadgets

Hah, I was just about to ask what GUI toolkit we should use :D Game engines as GUIs ftw! But seriously: What language? Python? What toolkit? Most Pandora and Pyra stuff is done in GTK, right? What kind of architecture? Commandline tools + GUI frontend that calls them?

    Just a quick heads up

I want to use the Pyra as a cellphone and simultaneous audio and rumble are pretty important for notifications.
  4. fahrstuhl

It reminds me of the Pandora!

You can do that!? I imagine desoldering and reusing a chip like this is hard as hell.

    ARM 32bit virtualization support

Do you know how we could fix that? I could only find the Xen wiki page on power management and it seems to be mostly about CPU frequency throttling? I also don't know anything about throttling on the Pyra, but if we have the usual Linux throttling support, Xen throttling shouldn't be too far...

    The Future of Pyra's CPU

Interesting to know! Xilinx says their UltraScale+ are in TSMC 16nm FinFET process, but you can still have power hungry chips in 16nm.

    Pyra Game Dev

Yeah, me too. And I hope it's not just exported games that run well but also the editor. Not very recent, though, because Blender 2.8+ requires OpenGL 3.3 and the Pyra only has an OpenGL ES 2.0 capable GPU.

    The Future of Pyra's CPU

Thanks for the info. I figured as much as the $250 Ultra96 board needs a 8V 3A PSU.

    The Future of Pyra's CPU

The Xilinx Zynq Ultrascale series could be interesting, they have ARM Cortex-A53 cores, an ARM Mali-400 GPU and a Xilinx FPGA fabric. So you could run a useful Linux including games on the ARM cores and GPU, and add any extra hardware you want to emulate in the FPGA fabric. The chips seem to be...

    ARM 32bit virtualization support

Xen seems to have arm32 support, too. It doesn't seem to be removed, either.

    Where are we now?

Cryptominers and ransomware are legitimate risks for normal consumers, and installing the latest patches helps a lot to protect you from them. Granted, nobody will target the Pyra or desktop Linux on ARM because there is no worthwhile userbase to make this kind of attack work. But security...

    Pyra Mods

Thanks, I'll look up the details when I have a Pyra in my hands! Neo2 on a thumb keyboard works great! Source: Typing this on my Android phone with my two thumbs on a Neo2 layout. Also, the keyboard was designed to be rewired, so in that regard I'm using it as designed ;-) Edit: A bit more...

    Pyra Mods

The first mod I'll do is to resolder one resistor on the keyboard matrix to make the space key into two keys, then cut up a second keymat to have two actual buttons there, and then create a Neo2 keyboard layout for the Pyra! Edit: And maybe 3D print a thinner base for the case without a battery...

Does the Pyra have something similar to IME (Intel Management Engine)?

A shame that Qubes-OS is still x86-only, that'd be a huge boost to security.

    Beauty competition.

I like black a lot better actually, it's less flashy. On the other hand I'd also go for a transparent Pyra, so maybe don't trust my aesthetic judgement

    Future of the CPU board?

On the official Rockchip wiki, they have some English language documentation: An 800 page technical reference manual and a zip containing reference schematics. Sadly, the hardware design guide for the RK3399 isn't linked to on the wiki, but it is findable via google. To me it looks as if they do...

    Future of the CPU board?

Not sure if I posted this before, but have you had a look at the Rockchip RK3399? Collabora has worked on making the reverse engineered GPU driver work and it seems like a good open source platform. Edit: Eight Bit posted this before, maybe I should read a thread before posting in it :D

You didn't expect this, I guess.

Chrome actually sounds pretty cool, I'm really interested how it looks. Although I already can't decide between wanting transparent or matte black…

Dell Alienware: Concept UFO handheld/portable console (Windows gaming PC)

omg! I've been thinking about how to make a portable x86 switch-like console for some time, this is exactly what I need! The unbeatable thing about x86 is the huge library of games I already own and that has been working on the platform for decades.

So, what's the current status of everything?

    Finally! What a milestone!
