    Zikzak - crummiest 8bit console/computer ever .. but I'm making it!

Thanks, that sounds reassuring. For now it doesn't bother me much that using SDCC probably means Z80-only, but I'm not entirely sure about the implications. I'll do a little bit more research first and try to get something going (even if I couldn't test it really) and get back to you.

It's really tempting. The Z80 stuff has been around forever, and I never got around to playing with it. Might as well do it now. There's a lot of info on programming a Z80, but my google fu let me down a bit on actually compiling firmware (I'd like be able to do it all on Linux). There's 'SDCC...

You're right, I should have been more specific. A Raspberry Pi gets hot like a mobile phone gets hot. In my world, that's "pretty hot". An STM32 gets hot like a tamagotchi gets hot. I consider that "not very hot".

A Raspberry Pi can get pretty hot, and there's a Lego casing for that. If that's not a problem there, I don't think it is here. And yes, that's looking great skeezix! Congrats! :)

Your final 'all-in-one' PCB is going to be through hole as well, right? I bet that's going to look awesome. Those diodes look like a boss! :D

I'm still laying all the basics down (both in software and hardware). Making sure I can compile and upload everything on the Pi, communicate on all the channels I want and nothing is in the way of each other. To test the data streaming with node, I'm just reading out a potmeter on an analog pin...

Thanks! :) Yes, it's all hand soldered. No oven. Initially used a heat gun for the F103, but drag-soldered it in the end. Caps and resitors are 0805. Just as easy to solder as throughhole. Still crazy big and scary and 'in the way' when laying them out in Eagle on zoom 500 though. Rev 2 is a...

It's another one of those recommendations from the app note. I don't know up front how the board's going to be powered and what's it going to be used for. I'm going for flexibility and don't want to take the blame for a dodgy powersupply and some dirty electromotors that mess things up. Better...

Connecting VBAT to VDD is 'highly recommended'. I have no idea what 'highly recommended' means, and there's no mention of consequences if you don't (other than the RTC not running). Too vague -> probably fine :) I have a set of jumper pins to select power options. An extra set of VBAT/VDD pins...

Maybe you'll want to double check the '2.2uF = 22pF' comment in the schematics. Typo? I have 2.2uF's on my F405 board on the VCAP pins. That is, I actually use an F103 on that board, but it also works for an F405. They're pin compatible if you replace these 2 caps for solder blobs (I just want...

Honest question; Is it possible to leave BOOT0 floating like this? I have a pull down resistor on mine, with a button to VDD. My concern is that it may accidentally boot from system memory (the bootloader) if BOOT1/PB2 happens to be 0, and BOOT0 happens to be 1. I even have a pull down resistor...

On the use of different programmers for different chips, just a reminder that an STM32 F4 (in DFU bootloader mode) can easily be programmed by the end user with only a USB cable. You'll need 2 resistors on the DM and DP pins (22 ohms) and GND hooked up to a USB connector. Use dfu-util to upload...

Yes, your creditcard number is in the account settings (They tried to charge a 6 years old creditcard number on my last order that had been stolen in the mean time). It indeed felt weird: ordering without being asked to pay. This link works for me: http://www.futurlec.com/YourAccount.html...
