My first impressions of the Pyra

Even the prototype was good enough for most tasks. The only downside I see is that I had no proper power saving mode. So my Pyra had to be turned off while my phone was on and waiting to be used all day. That's why I used the phone for most occasions. Else the Pyra yould have been the better...

    Pyra mobile broadband performance

I wonder what's the difference in battery life when: - Modem turned off - Modem on so you can receive messages all the time My prototype doesn't have LTE so I'm curious on how well the LTE version works. LTE is important for me.

    GPD WIN 3

To be honest, I don't care about the keyboard quality. As long as it's there it is enough for a gaming device. I'm reeeealllly tempted to by the IGG early bird for 780€. On the other side, I don't like the idea of not buying from DragonBox ... But then I have to wait longer :'( Such a hard...

My first impressions of the Pyra

Those buttons are not tiny. Compared to window decoration icons they are pretty large. From what I can tell there should be no issues hitting those.

    GPD WIN 3

The device would be locked to Apple software. It had no SD-card slot and a single USC-C port. It would cost 1500€ or more. Dock would cost 200€. No, thanks.

Lets start making the helper gadgets

Long ago after my first or second computer science semester I did start programming such a thing in GTK. As you can imagine, the code is a mess for sure ... https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/pyra-omni-settings.81838/ If you want to use it anyways and the paths are still the same I can...

My first impressions of the Pyra

Screen without touchscreen will be glossy as well I guess. I applied a matte screen protector. Works much better in sunlight. No need to rip of the touchscreen

My first impressions of the Pyra

In case you don't know my old Pyra post: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/pyra-in-the-wild-the-real-life-experience.81711/ It's quite dated already, but what did work at that time does work now as well :)

My first impressions of the Pyra

I checked right now. Even the file manager has touch support. So you can touch anywhere and scroll down with gestures. 1609670829 It was my main device back then. Except doing presentations and writing my bachelor thesis I did like 80-90% with the Pandora. 1609670974 As I don't like the glossy...

My first impressions of the Pyra

I am using a Pyra prototype since years and the touchscreen does work. You may trust me with that. Pyra uses MATE desktop. XFCE is less touch friendly. I tested both. I like XFCE but because MATE has great touchscreen support I am supporting MATE as standard desktop for Pyra. For FireFox you...

My first impressions of the Pyra

That Pyra does recognize the different input devices. A click with the touchscreen is handled differently than a click with the mouse if the underlying software supports it. A lot of software does. Most of it. What does not work is grabbing a text document or LibreOffice document and scrolling...

My first impressions of the Pyra

That is simply wrong. All major browsers (Firefox with an extension) and the default PDF reader on Pyra support touchscreens as phone users would expect them to work. Tap the screen with the stylus anywhere to drag the PDF/website up/down/left/right. Telegram also works that way if I remember...

My first impressions of the Pyra

There are situations where I use the touchscreen and want one. Scrolling PDF or websites for example. No precision is needed and the screen is sensitive enough to make that comfortable. Browsing in general feels good with the stylus. 1609661870 I like it and I would not want to miss it. It's not...

    GPD WIN 3

Looking great. I wish the screen was bigger, but during the unboxing it did not seem terribly small either :)

    PYdReAm

Let's be honest, what we need most is a faster and more efficient SoC that can play Dolphin and uses less power during common tasks.

    Just a quick heads up

I'm a little sad I can not help this time as I promised to help assembling the first Pyras. However with all that Corona bullshit going on I think it's better to not travel around and to better stay at home. @EvilDragon I hope you don't get too much overworked alone. I'm glad it was you who...

EpicGames Client ?? What do you think about it ?

It's a trap. I still refuse to use their launcher. I don't want one more launcher and account. If I were not so stubborn about it, that seems like a great "deal". Congrats for getting so many games for free :) From time to time they give away really great games worth playing.
