Any Bored Code Optimizers Out There?

Any Bored Code Optimizers Out There?

@skeezix Yeah, it does do some allocation in the render loop for temp surfaces as sprites as well as tiles filter through the same code....Since the sprites can be arbitrary dimensions, I re-allocate in the render, but you are right, that's costly, so I'll pre-create those before...

All excellent points! Thanks - I will make those changes (although I have to look closer at the color conversion/how often that needs to occur) - damn that should have been pretty obvious to me....

Any Bored Code Optimizers Out There?

Hey all, Was fixin' to get back to coding my pandora game, and I figured I'd throw the rendering portion to the mercy of the dev community. See, I am only a C++/game programmer hobbyist (career is more java stuff), so I figured I'd see if anyone with some time could point out any...

How Best To Handle An Opengl Es / Sdl Conversion?

Yup, that is a def possibility, and a route I most likely will take :) I added the opengl stuff for future coolness/lighting/transforms (and as a learning experience) But if I keep things simple the way they are, I think I may just nix the opengl stuff for now...

How Best To Handle An Opengl Es / Sdl Conversion?

Thanks for the replies all... 1. Yes, the quads are pretty static...Basically, like billboards - they are fixed (in position, space/rotation, and quantity) and really just there to gain the open gl benefits of upstretching images right now (I seem to remember SDL didn't have an efficient way...
