Surely if the RISC processors are running from their scratchpad SRAM there will be main memory bandwidth to spare? (Although the RISC processors will obviously have to use some bandwidth to produce useful output.)
Is this the register scoreboarding bug you're talking about, or something else?
I...
Hmmm... That's quite an interesting comparison to consider.
Both systems have a 68000 clocked at a similar speed. The Jag has two custom RISC processors, the Saturn has two SH2s, both also running at a similar clock speed. Both are two-address instruction set RISC processors.
I think the Jag's...
I'm pretty sure that under Android you can only write Java applications that sit on top of the Android platform, which are never going to be anywhere near as fast as C/C++ applications that sit straight on the metal (or at least on top of the kernel and graphics driver).
The hardware specs still don't look half bad, provided they don't ask too much money for it.
Wouldn't be keen on programming it under WinCE, though. A nice lightweight Linux or even coding straight onto the metal would be much better.
That's not strictly true - the flash and SDRAM is in a "PoP" (package-on-package) that is soldered to the top of the SoC.
You could get a PoP with more memory in it, but I understand that they get cripplingly expensive above the size fitted to the Pandora. Or, you could dispense with the PoP...
I'm very interested in using the Wiz as a music player.
It'll be interesting to see how long the battery lasts with the processor underclocked. OLED display too, so if you have a black background with a scrolly track name and a counter then the power drawn from the display will be pretty low...
I dunno. I much prefer my Gameboy Micro's screen to my SP's screen. The Micro's is only 2", but I find it a lot easier to see what's going on because it's so much brighter and sharper.
You can get a 2.5mm->3.5mm headphone adaptor for £2 (if that).
You can get them in the form of either a couple of inches of cable with a connector on each end, or what looks like a fat 2.5mm plug with a socket molded into the end.
That was my wild theory based on peering at the press photos. :D
Does the left-hand d-pad have a pivot?
I know the right-hand one doesn't (so you can press several or all of the buttons together), but I don't think anybody's said whether the left one does or not...?
