Got an answer from evildragon about the scanline issue.
I must say this man truly offers excellent service. Not even my gp2x was here in 2 days, he also takes time to answer mails in detail.
So if you look for a place to buy a gp2x HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...
Anyway here is a piece of his mail to...
Frodo for the gp32 has indeed savestates but some games require to save to the actual disk itself for e.g. highscores, rosters...
This is fixed in the gp2x version...
Time to celibrate.
This is just a way to congratulate Mike Dawson (Snaff) for his excellent work.
Frodo
has gone where it never had gone before on the gp32. It is in an amazing state already. It is everything it was on the gp32 and now even saves to .d64 a feature I have been begging to...
Great finally someone who sums it up. The gp2x is a fantastic machine (got it yesterday) but the scanline problem really is a problem. I have exactly the same problem you discribe...
Using the lcd/cpu tweaker does not solve the problem. My LCD does not flicker but the scanlines remain whatever...
Just ordered my gp2x and worried now...
Can someone please explain the reason why this message ....updating firmware ... appears ? (resulting in a bricked unit)
Is it a random event ?
Is it when using a wrong formatted sd-card ?
Is it when inserting a blank sd card ?
Is it something that...

I Never sent back the unit to LiK-sang because it overclocked to 166 Mhz. In those days...

Well worth to take a look...
Saving to disk is not supported... In some games you can indeed use the snapshot function. Games that require saving like high-score-tables... rosters (flight sims) are a problem...
Hope that this function will be implemented some day....
I own a 20gig mp3 player and the gp32 works fine with USB on the go because it was made to acces memorycards from digital camera´s (the mp3 player)
My mp3 player has it´s own filebrowser built-in to acces external devices... So I can copy, delete .... files on my gp32 using the mp3 player...
I play civ on castaway frequently....
Perhaps you save to the virtual st - disk .... (I never use the save option in civ)
I use the castaway saveslots and it works just fine...
Sounds like a serious problem... FLU's are not that replaceable. Read this board a lot of owners of a non lit gp32 want to upgrade to a flu but that is just not an option.
You say you have a crack and a light that does not switch on... I would try to solve this problem with the previous...
