I tried it out, it works quite well. No lags for me. This game is not that complicated though, imo. I played it all the way until the last introductory level.
I have installed the Debian image now. It definitely is much less polished than the Android image. Lots of stuff does not work.
* The default desktop environment is LXQT, however the default QTerminal is not properly configured so you cannot get it to accept commands. Luckily, xterm is...
I agree with @Grench that the web communities for the Gemini have been lacking thus far. However there is a very active Fakebook community right here:
https://m.facebook.com/groups/1774620199505688
It is a public group so you at least don't have to be signed in to view it.
I also wish that...
In my pocket, it's quite convenient. The size is really not that bad. Weight-wise, it reminds me a bit of one of those early Nokia 880/9xx series smartphones. I carry my regular phones in wallet cases so the extra thickness makes no difference whatsoever to me.
You do have to be careful with...
I had some more time to mess with stuff. I forgot to mention that I had to enable roaming in order to get data working.
I am not much of a gamer but it played the SNES ROMs I have very well. Let me know if you want any particular game or app tested.
Here is Street Fighter II: The New...
I use T-Mobile. Thus far, it seems like I have to use UMTS instead of LTE but to be honest, LTE isn't substantially faster so it doesn't bother me that much.
Here are some pics of my Gemini with various other pocket computers.
That last pic is the Gemini with some of my handheld PCs. From...
Thanks. I did not purchase accesories. Perhaps that's why I got mine so soon.
There is some pre-amp noise but not if you keep the plug from going in all the way. My theory is that the mic transmitter is faulty. I will try to dig up some headphones that don't have a mic ring to test.
Well, I got my Planet Computers Gemini in the mail today. I am US-based. It shipped directly from Hong Kong.
The keys are really quite good. No sticking issues as had been observed on the first units that were sent out although I would have wished for a slightly less pressure to make the keys...
Hi guys,
I actually am the author of the article. I've been collecting these pocket computer things for so long, I finally couldn't resist writing about them.
It's on the front page of Slashdot right now fyi.
I've not tried the trunk version but there are real issues with high DPI support on Pantheon. That matters for the Pyra given its ppi.
Imo XFCE is probably best with KDE a close second. The latter can be really optimized for small screen usage as almost every KDE app has user defined keystrokes...
That's why I wish I'd have thought of my idea of a separate keyboard PCB layer sooner. It would have enabled us to have multiple physical layouts. Unfortunately, it was too late by the time I asked ED about it.
It's heresy to say this but I actually prefer a keyboard for gaming as I think it...
That's simply untrue. The HP 200LX has an even smaller alphabetic keyboard section and it is more usable than the Pandora per the people I know who have owned both. There are two reasons for this: 1) The keys do not require as much force to depress and 2) there are two shift keys.
#1 has been...
I voted for #5.
A lot of people who have purchased the Pandora don't realize that having two shift keys on the keyboard is very important to a lot of people who wouldn't purchase a Pandora. It's ludicrous imo to expect people to use gaming controls for their typing.
There are far more people...
I wouldn't recommend Compiz going forward. But KWin has basically all the same major features plus many others which Compiz does not have, including the ability to disable compositing entirely.
