    N900 Question

The Pandora and the N900 don't have exactly the same SoC. The N900 has an OMAP3430, the Pandora an OMAP3530. AFAIK, the differences between those two are minimal, and code should be interchangeable. However, there are probably significant differences between Pandora's linux-distribution, and...

    Q: Warranty At 800Mhz?

The EU (and, quite frankly, if that map's at least a bit correct, most pandorians are from the EU) has rather strict consumer protection laws. As far as I know, they're more or less like this: There's a legally required warranty for as long as the device is, under normal usage, reasonably...

    Q: Warranty At 800Mhz?

WhiteBat, You misread EvilDragon. He wasn't talking about overclocking, he was talking about ("file"system-)permissions in the OS, so a normal user's account can change the max clock the chip runs at (f.ex: light use: low max clock; game: as high as needed/possible.) without needing to become...

    Auto-Mounted Pnd Files?

I HATE ask-for-permission-thingys. They only work if you actually check what it wants to do. Anyone here actually ever doing that? Better way would be to (cryptographically) sign those PND's. Only those PND's which have been checked by someone you trust (Pandora-devs by default?) would be...

    Auto-Mounted Pnd Files?

Can a PND automatically execute some scripts (in the PND) when inserted and removed? I think that'll be enough for most "special" cases. Though it's not particularly safe...

Will This Work For Booting The Pandora?

I'd say a minimal recovery-image on the NAND, that can do some system maintenance, fix, partition and format sd-cards, and download and install a full install. Should fit within a couple MB, including kernel, and can just sit there on the NAND, next to the main system.

Will This Work For Booting The Pandora?

AFAIK, no. Cygwin is userspace-only, and doesn't have fs-drivers. You can create and check ext2/3-partitions, but you can't mount them... I think a tiny linux-VM would be a better and easier way to go.

    Tetris Grandmaster On Pandora

Just read the article OP linked. After a block is placed, you have a small waiting-time before the next block drops, and you can choose the orientation of the block when it drops. Furthermore, you have a waiting-time before the block locks into place, so you can still move the block around.

Pandora 2, A Year Or So From Now?

If we disable all power-management on all chips, put them to full use (including DSP, GPU etc.), and make the scales logarithmic, then that graph might make some sense...

Pandora 2, A Year Or So From Now?

I think you mean 1080P... As for 3D: if you want proper 3D (actually stereoscopic imaging), you're going to need an OLED-screen. The shutterglass-technique requires, for proper effect, high-frequency image-switching, with perfect image-separation(ie. no ghosting). Something OLED can deliver, but...

    What Does This Mean?

Oh, I thought Pmenu was running on the FB. must've mistaken it for some other loader... And, as OpenGL seems to be faster on the FB than on X, that alone is a viable reason for running games outside of X. But you won't have to stop X for that. Swap comes in handy here, and a bit of renicing(nice...

    What Does This Mean?

Shouldn't it be possible to run Pmenu and an X-server (with xfce or netbook-launcher) at the same time, on different virtual terminals? And, on a related note, shouldn't it be possible to start a game on a separate VT without killing X?

Pandora 2, A Year Or So From Now?

Well, anyways, there need to worthy chips available for an update to actually be possible. Until that happens, this discussion is pretty much moot. Once those chips do become available, I think an update is the logical thing to do. If anything, the new chips should use less power for the same...

Pandora 2, A Year Or So From Now?

My wishlist for a Pandora2, in no particular order: OLED screen DV-output usb3 compact-flash slots bigger NAND (gigabit) ethernet camera gps might come in handy faster cpu is always nice even more processing power/hour of batterylife (eg. bigger battery, and/or faster cpu, with even lower power...

    The Appstore Exists Better Now

I doubt OOo would be included by default. That'll instantly fill up the NAND, or a smaller flashcard. And it's one of the most annoying things to get compiled... Guess we'll have to make do with abiword...

    Preload On Pandora?

Yes, it should help, but less than on a laptop with a HDD and enough memory. On a HDD, especially laptops, seek-times are the biggest issue, and preload greatly helps with that, as files are read more sequentially from the disk. So all needed files are actually read in faster. Flash's...

It's called tethering, and almost all bluetooth-phones support it. Linux also has everything needed to use it.

    Screens Of The Future

The Iphone(right one) has an LCD-screen, and the background is supposed to be black... (AM)OLED is simply better than LCD, just still more expensive to produce. Black pixels don't give any light, colors are better, no ghosting, lower power usage, better viewing angles.
