I think USB > Pandora chargers should have no problems since you are just sending 5 volts to 5 volts and not using a transformer or any type of circuitry to change the volts/amps.
I got a USB > PSP adapter off DX for charging, and it seems to work ok, we'll see how it works with the Pandora. I got it because it had leads for DS as well, so I could use one cable for both and not have to swap them around.
There's really no reason to re-encode video, if you download something standard dvd resolution or less it should play fine on your screen. Resolution of the video should not significantly alter your battery time.
microSD cards aren't cheaper than SDHC, and currently microSD tops out at 16 gig cards. Don't know why anyone would pick a microSD over a true SDHC card, unless you have another device that uses microSD.
I don't understand why people want to put crappy cameras in everything. You don't really need one, and if you REALLY want one, there are tons of crappy cheap usb ones you can clip on that you can probably get for 5 bucks on ebay.
Linux is far removed from it's days of being "hard to understand", it has a modern interface that is very similar to Windows, I don't think you'll have that much of an issue really. There are kids using Linux, so it can't be that hard to use.
