Great to see a release. And yeah, I agree with what other donators said about the timing - it doesn't really matter to me when the public version is released. I hope people do continue to donate.
Frustratingly (or maybe amusingly), all this talk of virtualisation has made me start using my...
Has the recent news about the demise of Gamepark allowed this project to come to light, or is it just a coincidence? Just seems an interesting one timing wise, so I was wondering.
It's exciting stuff - I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
There's nothing wrong with needng news items to be approved. The problem is that those threads shoudl only be linked to from the front page once they've been approved. At the moment, a broken link shows up, leading to confusion and double posts. It's not a problem with the procedure, it'a a...
The volume controls start to work as fire buttons when you rotate the screen in MAME, so you can control it with both hands at the bottom of the screen.
Rotating the GP2X has no effect on the scaling - some games had the screen mounted that way, so holding the GP2X that way is the simplest way...
Talking to Nickspoon on IRC, we worked out that I'm on the newest version of cramfs, and he was on an older one. It sounds like the newer one maps / to /mnt/sd/, or something along those lines.
But yeah - not everyone is using cramfs, so the change to gnuboy will definitely help.
It created a directory called .gnuboy in the root of my SD card. Doesn't answer your problem, but maybe that answers the 'was it trying to write to the NAND?' question.
The gnuboy readme doesn't say that you need to press A to save or B to load a savestate. You have to wait for the (slow) scrolling message to tell you that.
What about SRAM saves? They don't seem to work for me. Should they?
edit - That sounds really negative - it's a great emulator, but I...
Yeah, save states seem fine in the new gnuboy, but even the name entry in Tetris DX doesn't seem to save automatically for me, so I'm guessing SRAM saves are either broken, not in there, or aren't obvious.
In that case you REALLY need to check the new version out. This is one of several changes listed in the readme: "Perfect sound thanks to total elimination of SDL and use of the minilib for sound." And I agree - it sounds fantastic!
edit - I still haven't worked savestates out in it though...
His cap is just an example of what a good job you can do if you choose to replace the cap. It's popular because a lot of people don't want to do do that sort of thing. Good on him for providing that service, but it's no innovation.
I have the same type of card - it doesn't work for firmware updates. It works fine for other stuff though.
You can still use RobB's updater though. You can get it from here: http://gbax.com/firmware/flasher.zip
Make sure you read the instructions included with it, and you'll hopefully be OK.
The skins problem is because cramfs is a read only file system, so the scripts won't be able to write the files to the NAND. You can still have skins if you roll your own disk image (the file used for the first bit in the cramfs install instructions). I think there are instructions for that in...
