    Derisiveness detection system

Neat project! Is there any chance of adding support for my USB electroencabulator. There should already be drivers for it upstream, and I think it might help compensate for the device's inherent autolaetion coefficient.

    How do you pronounce GIF?

The G stands for GNU; it's a recursive acronym.

    World News Thread (Politics,whatever)

That's true - but the problem isn't that people have those qualities. The problem is that they're expected to. Systematically reversing those expectations ("Women should be rich and powerful!") is a clumsy and ineffective way of tackling that problem, and forms a problem in and of itself. By...

    World News Thread (Politics,whatever)

I strongly disagree with that turn of phrase. The rubbish women have to put up with didn't magically go away because comparably deleterious nonsense is targeted at men! Standard Men are expected to be physically powerful, unemotional, and are judged by their earnings. Standard Women are...

Help needed (icons display incorrectly in minimenu)

I've taken the liberty of appending some more detail to your thread title. It always helps to specify what you want help with, so as to attract the people who are most able to solve the problem. :)

5G is coming... not in my lifetime

I quite agree. The effect of low-power radio/microwave signals on people is small, and the evidence of harm is pretty unconvincing. However, the psychological impact of carrying a machine which is constantly begging for your attention is incontrovertible and obvious to even the most lay of...

    Why not to by GPD

With some radio equipment, and some industrial-surplus control gear, I don't see why there shouldn't be a utility on your Pyra that allows you to actually drive a Unimog!

Some personal stuff - and prototypes building!

Personally, I think it very unlikely that I'd have a use for that much RAM. As I type this on my laptop (Debian, with a full desktop environment, several big GUI applications open) I'm only using 2.8GB. I do use much more than that for heavy graphics-processing tasks - but I wouldn't do those on...

    Absurdism corner

Isn't two-pass ROT13 an industry standard for the modern web? I frequently find myself forced to deal with web forms that handle security-critical information, but depend on 3rd-party javascript, cross-site scripting, unexpected redirects to dodgy-looking domains, adobe flash widgets, invalid...

Brief Answers to the Big (Pyra) Questions

I just tried an old Logitech M185 (mouse) and a new K400+ (leopard) with my Pandora, both worked fine through a powered hub to the 'big' USB port. Other combinations, connecting them directly, or through a passive adaptor to the mini USB port, didn't seem to work.

Media and Press - who should we contact?

I wouldn't worry too much about the junk press poking fun at the project. The sort of people who fret about being called a 'nerd' are hardly likely to buy a Pyra, anyway. Potential Pyra owners are unlikely to read junk-grade newspapers. With such a niche product, the challenge is more to ensure...

    32-bit future?

Do you mean that they don't offer precompiled binaries for 32bit x86, or that the software actually can't be compiled for 32bit systems? The latter would be a problem, but sounds unlikely, to my mind! 32bit x86 binaries will be of no use to us anyway, since the Pyra isn't using an x86 CPU...

The Internet of Things (Smart locks, etc...)

It might also be that engineers are (by nature or by training) more aware that: A 'dumb' appliance does the job perfectly well, and is only insufficient for a few edge-cases Those 'dumb' appliances will last ten times as long as their 'smart' counterparts. I have seen porcelain & bakelite...
