That's how I see it -- I don't really see GPH going out of bussiness over this I just see one of two things happening. They comply now, or they comply later.
As they don't release any new firmware without sources, I'm inclined to let it slide for awhile.
Actually, I'm sticking with they’ll comply before being sued into non-existence; it's just a matter of who legal action will be taken against. If GPH is a victim in this, as in Dignsys told them to fuck-off, then it will be Dignsys whom legal action will be taken against. If compliance is the...
Ugh...
Well, you can really only speak for yourself on that matter. You have no idea how everyone else would have reacted, so I will take the above to mean how you would have reacted. What you’re really saying in the above is that you don’t give a rat’s ass about copyright law. Correct...
That's why I asked the question I did. Really that's the situation we're in right now, GPH has ripped off code and not given credit were it is due. I'm just really confused about how some people have taken this "fuck the gpl" attitude - how they don't see how wrong it is to steal other peoples...
It's Thursday - who still think we're getting new firmware / source this week?*
*Not really complaining, as long as they don't release new firmware until they're ready to release the source with it my bitching will be kept to a minimum.
How would developers feel about that? If GPH ripped off your contributions to Open2X and gave you no credit, and only made source releases of the official kernel when they found it convient, and only released the parts they found convient to release, would you feel a bit pissed on?
Um Nobody has said that - What they have said is give us all the code you are reqiured to under the GPL licensee, ie modified Linux Kernel, U-Boot bootloader, and Mplayer media player. They can keep there menu source code, and any kernel MODULES they've written all to themselves.
I have nothing but respect for DJWillis.
I *hope* the distributors are really putting the pressure on GPH to get this resolved, and I understand if Craig is upset with getting hounded by the "slashdogs" - but that doesn't change what I had to say on the first page of this thread.
Sometimes the words you type come acrossed jumbled. But yes, of course Linux is just the kernel, and it should work the same way on any piece of hardware -- I'm just not sure what point you were trying to make.
Just applying the development approach of OSS to other ideas, don’t blame me WEJ brought it up first.
I disagree, if Linux was chosen solely because replicating it’s functionality would take an awful long time, then why wasn’t a BSD adapted to the GP2X instead of Linux? Using a BSD would...
I concur on the petty ranting issue – I prefer my rants to be on topics of merit. As I see them the topics of merit are:
(1)How does the GPL licensee effect the GP2X community?
(2)What can we as a community and as individuals do to get the source code for GPL licensed software used on the GP2X...
We like hyperbole around here don’t we, but anyways to start address some of this…
This has nothing to do with better emulators; it has everything to do with “doing the right thing”. If all I wanted was better emulators I would happily let GPH/Dig continue to break the law so that they could...
Nevermind...
It's just a Doom Wad that looks like Half-Life.
You can find the Wad Here: http://www.gp32x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,24,337
Still, it makes me want Doom on the GP2X.
