    Adobe Reader

I always go back to xpdf, because it always does what I want, with every file, it's fast and reliable. Acro reader is slow, and along with some others it wants to do 'partial read' or whatever it is. xpdf for me.

    The Touchscreen And The Hinge

Coming from a Palm PDA via a Zaurus and a couple of Nokia tablets I'm definitely in the 'no double tap to open, please' camp. Double clicks are more useful for other things IMO. On the N900 it works quite nicely for instant zoom, for example.

    Pandora = Zaurus ?

Right, but in this the Pandora isn't any different to a PC with VoIP. Better, because the Pandora can be carried around. I've used my N800 for Skype calls from many places in the world. It's not a certain thing that we'll ever get Skype running on the Pandora, but there are other (e.g. SIP)...

    Pandora As A Phone

Maybe it was - my memory got a bit hazed due to all the price popping up with combos of coupons and short-lasting rebates and cancels and re-ordering and so forth. Anyway, $600 flat still validates my point (-> that the GSM part vastly increases the cost).

    Pandora As A Phone

I suspect adding phone capability involves a much higher cost increase than just $100. Again the N900 can be used as an example. The price is way above $600, considerably more expensive than the previous non-phone tablets. There's a 5Mp camera in there too, but my guess it doesn't add that much...

    Pandora As A Phone

The first point is quite inaccurate, the second is total rubbish. Either you don't know a thing about the Indian phone market, or, what I think, you do know and you're completely perverting the facts. Were you one of those folks using a Chinese phone with a cloned IMEI? The actions taken by the...

    Release It's Here!

They look a little bit brownish, I hope that's just a picture artifact. I want mine to be black as in total abscent of light.

Is It Possible To Raid0 Sd Cards With Pandora?

FWIW, that's a post I remember reading myself.

Is It Possible To Raid0 Sd Cards With Pandora?

Aren't the slot fed by a single-channel SD controller? So you read/write one slot at the time in any case. My N800 works that way, so trying to double the speed by striping the two slots won't give any speed increase.

    Battery Re-Charging Software Controlled

That will depend on the internal temperature of the laptop, and also on the charging level the laptop uses. Here where I work we have lots of laptops everywhere, sitting in offices and meeting rooms, always on the mains. Every single one of them have useless batteries, at least after a year. But...

    Battery Re-Charging Software Controlled

The battery is completely sealed. There shouldn't be a problem. I have kept lithium batteries in the fridge for up to several years, in diverse forms of packing (including just the snap-lock plastic box it came with). No problems whatsoever. You can even store it in the freezer, it won't freeze...

    Battery Re-Charging Software Controlled

The charging of the Pandora battery does _not_ rely on the circuit inside the battery itself. That circuitry is there for protection, not regulation. It cuts off the charging barely below the level where the battery would get damaged, or, worst case, explode. The regulating circuit is in the...

    The Suspend Functionality

As for the low battery emergency case, my N800 has a little battery monitor daemon which starts popping up a warning (and plays a little sound) when battery level gets low. At that point there's still lot of time to finish what I'm doing and either shut down or go find a charger. A daemon like...

    The Suspend Functionality

Just get emacs running and write your stuff there, it'll keep a backup for you. :) (maybe not the very last word you wrote, but it updates to a backup file regularly)

    Wifi Module?

Well, yes, you _are_ ignorant! :) There are only 13 channels available for 802.11g (in Europe. 11 in the US, 14 in Japan). These overlap. To avoid interference you need to be 3 channels away. So, it starts to get congested very, very quickly. The pub I mentioned I used to be able to connect...

    Question On Ordering Board Only

For wired Ethernet I'll be using my Apple USB Ethernet dongle. It works out of the box on Linux devices (including the BB), and has in addition helped me when installing new desktop computers where the installation image didn't have support for the (too new) on-board Ethernet. (Later, when...

    Wifi Module?

I have noticed that it gets more and more difficult to connect to the 802.11g networks around here. In one location I can at all times see 20-24 different networks, most of them closed ones, but it means that, due to interference, it's sometimes impossible to connect to the one I want to use...

    Battery Voltage

No, it charges to 4.20 volts (when actually charging it will feed the battery with maximum 4.24 volts). The battery itself has a built-in protection circuit that switches off at 4.30 volts. This is the same type of cell that's often called '3.7v'.

    The Suspend Functionality

No, suspend is not important at all, for what you list. I do all of that with my N800, and it doesn't suspend. It's always on, but it uses very little power. In addition, I'm getting notified by arriving email, Skype calls come in, I hear a little 'bing' when someone connects for a chat, my RSS...

    Battery Voltage

I would, if I can configure this myself on my own Pandora, put the switch-off much higher, maybe 3.5-3.7 volts. My Palm PDA turns off at 3.76 volts and that'll get a lot of charge out of the battery and it lasts for a very long time (I have one which is 5 years and still going strong with not...
