    Dark Engine Port?

Given OPDE's development speed, though, I expect the Pandora 4 to be out before the first Dark Engine game is fully implemented. Sad thing, that; the Dark Engine is notoriously hard to get working on modern machines and I'd like to play through System Shock 2 again.

Lcd Screen? That Is Too Old-Tech For What The Pandora Can Do.

OLED. Phh. As a proper emulation device the Pandora 2 will not have to rely on filters or similar tricks to get the look just right. Confirmed: The Pandora 2 will ship with a built-in CRT display.

Lcd Screen? That Is Too Old-Tech For What The Pandora Can Do.

I'm happy about the display not being OLED-based. The main advantage of OLED is that it looks better, which fades over time along with the blue emitters. Yes, there are OLED with blue emitters that last about as long as LCDs - in a laboratory, not yet market-ready. And even those have the...

    Beta Appstore Testing (Again)

That's because a lot of people think they're smart and implement regexp checks for mail addresses without ever even looking at the RFC they're defined in (or, in fact, doing any research at all). You get wonderful constructs like [\w\d-_]+@[\w\d-].[\w\d]{2,3} - they match about 90% of the...

    Beta Appstore Testing (Again)

I agree that there should be the usual two password fields. Keeps people from locking themselves out during registration. Also, email addresses should get some basic verification. Nothing too fancy (because "fancy" and "correct" usually don't agree); a regexp check against .+@.+\..+ would...

    Beta Appstore Testing (Again)

I wanna join in on the fun, too. I bet much of this has already been found but here you go. - The alt attribute of the thumbnails is "apppage", should be something meaningful (just plugging in the item's title would be much better). - The "remove" and "vote down" buttons on the comment pages...

    Tinxl?

By the way, do you have any idea on which licenses your implementations will be released under? I'm involved with a (non-Pandora) game project and we'll need a matchmaking service in the future. TINXL could save us a bit of work but depending on the license we'd either extend your work (BSD-type...

    Iphone 4G

It's an open secret that most Apple leaks are intentional. That way Apple can both be secretive about upcoming products and hype them at the same time. Pretty clever, actually.

    Case Finish?

I once had an MP3 player with a nice case finish - the case itself was transparent and the paint was applied to the inside. That gave a nice glossy finish (which of course only works if you can get the case done with smooth surfaces) and was pretty resilient as the user never got in contact with...

    Pandora Wi-Fi On 350kilobytes/s

It's okay if later firmware revisions can boost it. 350 KB/s is enough for browsing on a slowish connection but it's about 5% of what the NIC should be able to deliver and it's certainly not enough to saturate even an average internet connection over here (in Germany you barely even get any...

Is Everything On Track For Early April Production?

Wait, so the amount of power the internal WiFi NIC draws is dependent on how bright the display is? That's... odd.

Any Reason To Continue Using Full Sized Sd Cards?

Actually, I didn't even select the cheapest cards for my estimates but tried to provide a very rough average. A-Data and Transcend offer 16 GB Class 6 at about 30 EUR, which comes out to 60 EUR for 32. Still more expensive than in Canada, though. By the way, can you give me the address of a...

Any Reason To Continue Using Full Sized Sd Cards?

By the way, that's pretty unlikely. The flash storage sector got hit pretty hard by the recession due to its razor-thin margins. That's why flash prices have been stagnant (sometimes even rising) for the last two years. Expect the prices to stay stable until the recession is completely over. In...

Any Reason To Continue Using Full Sized Sd Cards?

I could imagine an adapter card with a special controller that reports the microSD cards as two partitions on the same drive, adapting the virtual drive's geometry as needed. There are some problems with that approach, though (like clueless users repartitioning their "drive") and the adapter...

    "terminal Fear"

If you find vi too cryptic and/or have ever used the old MS-DOS EDIT.EXE I recommend nano. Essentially the least powerful but most approachable of the usual Linux text-mode text editors. Most distros have it installed by default (in fact most distros ship vi, nano and emacs, covering all bases).

    "terminal Fear"

9 times out of 10 you don't need the terminal window – but once you've gotten used to it, 9 times out of 10 you do open the terminal window it's for something like moving or renaming files.

    "terminal Fear"

+1 Linux makes it fairly easy to do some nifty things. I once had /boot (guess what that does) on a CF card in a CF-to-IDE adapter. Why? That way I could just remove the card, rendering the computer unbootable. Well, unless the attacker used such devious tools as a live CD. I actually just did...

    "terminal Fear"

I'm replying to this older post because I think this is a good point to explain another bit of Unix basics. First comes a bit of a tangent, some info about cat. cat really does concatenate things; the following line would print the contents of 1.txt, 2.txt and 3.txt concatenated: cat 1.txt...

    Craigx Does It Again...

Do we have a "born in early March" club now? Can I join? Anyhow, I'm pretty relaxed about the whole thing. I don't really care whether I have my Pandora on the 1st, the 15th or the 28th of March. Or in April. I'll just file it as a birthday present that took really long to arrive.
