How is WP7 + Nokia = choice? WP7 can be licensed by anyone, Symbian nowadays is specifically Nokia and MeeGo was still born and just lost one of its parents.
To me it seems we just lost the choice of 2.
My view comes from looking at the bulk of the popular distros and seeing what is common about them.
A: they are distributed by a group under a banner
B: they contain a similar subset of parts
GNU/Linux is not a distro, it is an attempt by "someone" to get some glory when the HERD didn't...
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with pushing symbian onto higher end devices, just they should have re-wrote the GUI for it and tried to port changes down to older devices too.
As long as a group distributes the linux kernel with a ui and apps then it is a distro in my books :D
Most small devices use a modified kernel, you don't want kernel bloat, why load drivers for something that really doesn't have the resources for it?
