    Release Pidgin 2.10.9

Hrm, steam for pidgin needs NSS, which I can't get to cross-compile with yactfeau right now. Maybe I'll just try Code:Blocks if I find the time. I also keep getting Unknown EABI object attribute 44 a lot, is that bad? It doesn't abort but it sounds like it might be problematic later.

    Meaningful games

I consider Spec Ops: The Line one of the most important games of recent history. Its main character is driven to eventually become the hero after all, despite the horrible things he has done in the course of the story. It really makes one reflect on what heroes are and how they are portrayed in...

    Release Pidgin 2.10.9

Hi, Sorry about the lack of updates, I haven't used my Pandora in quite a while. I'm uploading the 2.10.9 version to the repo right now. I couldn't get OpenSteamWorks to build because it depends on json-glib, which needs glib-2.34.0, which we don't have on the Pandora as far as I remember. I...

Testing alternative Layouts that require single-width space. INTL layout vs Big Space, and other key

+1 Well, the separable pads are there, so I was going to cut the space key in half myself. How well would that work with the material of the keymat?

    A bunch of pictures

The board on the EVM seems to be the same as the one on the Pyra, just upside down (See the two black connectors on either side). The square solder arrays should be for the SoC.

    A bunch of pictures

Wow, this is beautiful! Basically every single feature I've missed on the Pandora but also every feature I loved. THIS is how devices should evolve! Rumble, adequate port spacing, eSATAp, GPS, 3G, enough keys for weird keyboard layouts, bigger screen, open hardware, wonky chip, four shoulder...

Rethinking PNDs and standard packaging approach

Two PNDs on different SD cards install the dependency on each SD card, because the SD cards wouldn't be self-contained otherwise. Two apps with the same dependency on the same SD card share the one on the SD card. The only disadvantage is a bit of wasted space on an SD card, which is incredibly...

Rethinking PNDs and standard packaging approach

How about the PNDs include all the dependencies that are not already in the base OS and it's possible to install the most recent libraries onto the SD card and have the PND use those? You won't fill up the internal storage, have self-contained packages and it's possible to use the newest libraries.

    Hackability

CSI2 seems to need at least 6 pins. According to this PDF document it does. There's a driver for the raspberry pi camera in the kernel, if that helps. Although the connector would need to be pin compatible.

What will Pyra replace for you?

An 8" flat surface to annotate A4 pdfs is a pretty big difference to the 4.3" inches of the Pandora. Honestly, I don't really like Xournal. I hope there'll be an Android compatibility layer of some sort so I can use Lecture Notes, which is way, way better. (Just not open source, sadly.) In...

    Hackability

Hi, So, the Pandora had quite a few solderpads available and hardware hacks done. What can we expect from the Pyra? Unpopulated MIPI CSI pads for a camera add-on? Internal USB pads? JTAG? Also, having the case files from the very beginning will offer a lot of possibilities for case mods of all...

What will Pyra replace for you?

I expect it to replace my Galaxy Note 8.0 phone/tablet (and maybe even my laptop for some tasks, depending on the Pyra's actual performance). I haven't been using my Pandora lately and I'm really looking forward to having an always connected pocket device with a physical keyboard again. I've...

Uses for the Cortex-M4 cores on the OMAP5?

And according to this diagram of the OMAP5, there's a dedicated DSP on the chip anyway. Askarus mentioned the Ducati system, which seems to be availiable in the OMAP5, too. So you use the M4s to access the video and image processing cores? I don't really understand the need for the M4s...

Pyra may be illegal in Minnesota?

There is prey for Linux, so the Pyra is at least capable of downloading theft locking software. Isn't that true for basically every Android device? And your personal data can be compromised anyway if it's not encrypted. (Edit: And even then you'd need to erase the decryption keys from RAM if...

Uses for the Cortex-M4 cores on the OMAP5?

Hi, What are realistic use-cases for the two Cortex-M4 cores on the OMAP5? I've read they're meant for offloading tasks like handling SMS, phone calls, audio and video en-/decoding but what's the DSP for, then? And if the modem is attached to a serial interface, is there anything to offload...

SoC Poll - What's most important for you?

    Even with projects like Coreboot?

Which Pyra model do you plan to get? 3G or Wi-Fi only? (Poll)

Definitely the 3G version to replace my phablet. I don't think I'll need 4G for a while, 3G is fast enough for email, XMPP, VoIP and browsing. And maybe the German government gets its act together and makes free city-wide WLAN possible, then I'll need 4G even less.

    Got displays, looking for keymats

I don't want to derail this but as you said the PCB is nearly done and I feel it's the last chance to ask you to consider this. (Edit: Being able to split the two pads of the space key by desoldering a connection and soldering another one and having an unused keycode for the other pad in the...

Separate pads for the space key?

That's what I meant :D To change the behavior you open the first and close the second.
