[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

I understand the speed problem is one of the reasons some people want eMMC, but can you imigine something like this as your main storage?

    Which distro

Holy crap, that one is bloddy awesome. It even loads up the website of said package. Sure it the best on Arch. Still, not as noob friendly as Synaptic, but yeah, I am keeping it around :) .

    Which distro

Holy crap this. When I first started using Linux, ala Ubuntu 9.04, I loved Synaptic. Even now, if I have to use Debian/Ubuntu I will install synaptic (I don't like the Software Center). I have gotten use to the command line over the years, and quite like it for somethings (c* is my favorite...

Any chance on talking to anyone at Valve about the Pyra?

This. While it is true that for Valve the Pyra will be "small fish", it would also be a great testing bed for them. A nice open handheld that they could use as a reference system. And /if/ they got involved, it woudn't stay a small fish for long, as least I doubt it.

    Which distro

Debian jessie. As a default OS, you need to have a very smooth, easy to use OS. Debian does this quite well, even more so as it turns stable. While I like Arch, currently use it and would probable use it on the Pyra too, it isn't suitable as a "default OS". While it is quite stable, even with...

Any chance on talking to anyone at Valve about the Pyra?

I actually just talked about steam on the Pyra over on reddit :) . Even just the streaming would be awesome. The thing is, Valve said they are doing linux as a jumping off point to Android. Linux is just so they can learn OpenGL, and get everything ready. Then it is just an easy port to...

What should be included in the firmware?

I agree with the XBMC thing, which is why it wasn't in my list. Just something I thought people might want. As for LXDM, I don't know why that would be, except maybe that they were switching to SystemD around then, and it might have had problems.

What should be included in the firmware?

I have found LXDE to be quite easy to understand. The only problem with it is that there is no gui program for alot of stuff, you just edit txt files (though it is really easy, imo). However, you do make a good point. I think the best DE for windows users would be XFCE. It is really simple, with...

[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

Yeah, not mean. Never was on gp32x board before. Only portables I have had are a PSP, NDS, and a Ramos T10. Always wanted a Pandora, but never could get one. So I never went to those type of boards. That is one of the reasons I would want the SD over the eMMC. If everything were static, then...

[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

I doubt it. Unless you also rec the avatar, as it is the same one I have used forever / the only one I have ever used, or known "him" as theredbaron1834. Plus, the only one online who I can remember that dislikes me is some guy on reddit who was a GNU fanboy, and I am not.

What should be included in the firmware?

Honestly, this is what I would do. I am not someone who will change SD card often, or every really. So I would just use advanced launcher for all my apps, and run the touched interface. Instead of Awesome, you could just use Openbox. Very lightweight, not as lightweight as awesome, but also not...

[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

Personally, how this is done will determine if I ever upgrade. If eMMC is used, I highly doubt I would ever upgrade. As has been mentioned, they will have to be bought from the Prya store. This is fine, for the most part, but does have limits. From limits on what type/speed there is access to...

[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

The only place I had heard of eMMC before is over at ODROID. I had thought that it was the whole thing that was the eMMC, not just the chip. They also have simple eMMC to TF adaptor's, so I thought it wouldn't be that hard to go the other way around.

[poll; updated] eMMC vs. uSD; modular eMMC

Is there no way to get an SD to eMMC adaptor? As that seems to be what would be best. You can just put the emmc socket on the board, with the SD adaptor and a cheap 8gb SD. That way you can get the best of both worlds. You can easily upgrade for speed, or space, your choice. Now I couldn't find...

What should be included in the firmware?

I would have to defer to your judgment on that, as I have only used Midori on my desktop's x64 cpu, never on arm. I never had trouble with it, but I know arm can be a whole different beast.

What should be included in the firmware?

I too like VLC and Firefox, and as I said firefox would get installed quick. I just think that it would be best to keep the size down, and keep things simple. Midori is much smaller then firefox. As for vlc, well, it just isn't (imo) as easy to use as Smplayer. Corse, this is also a preference...

What should be included in the firmware?

Personally, I would prefer a very "base" install: DE: I assume XFCE is most wanted though I would want LXDE due to size/preference. Music Player: Something small, I prefer Cmus(C*). Video Player: Smplayer2 is great for this. Small and can play just about anything. Browser: Midori is great for...
