    Touch Screen Reliability

The application of a good quality screen protector film as soon as the gadget is purchased has served me well on many, many touchscreen displays I have owned over the years. Never had a failure yet.

    Possible Ps2 Emu?

My personal belief is that the Google Chrome OS will actually cause many people to convert to Linux. You buy a netbook running Chrome, and want to get more power, what do you do? You load up Linux, that's what. The Chrome thing will make it "OK" to be running something other than Windows, for...

    If You Want A Pandora

Total scam. If someone had actually ordered 40 units from the first batch, and wanted to cash in on Ebay, they would post them up one at a time at auction after the first batch had officially sold out. I would guess $600 US selling prices would ensue.

Very nice. I especially liked the hinge pushing session.

Invisibleshield (Screen Protector & All Other Items)

I disagree. Using packing tape, which has a strong adhesive, will be likely to damage the touchscreen film on the LCD. When you remove the tape, you will be pulling on the touchscreen, which can pull it away from the edge where it is attached.

Invisibleshield (Screen Protector & All Other Items)

I like ordering from within the US. I'll pay a bit more for a local company. And these prices are pretty close to the Hong Kong version, and I'll get them faster. Hong Kong is much closer to Australia, though, so it may not be such a great deal for you.

Invisibleshield (Screen Protector & All Other Items)

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered two, and some others for other gadgets as well. Pricing is very competitive with the Hong Kong direct guys at 50% off.

So What's A Reasonable Timeframe At The Moment?

I'd like to hear if the MP boards are populated yet, if not, when?

    Release It's Here!

Better if hosted on the website of the copyright holder. You could post the HTML page above on openpandora's website. It could be a blind link, with no referring linkages to elsewhere on the site. You post a thumbnail with the CC license, and the full size for distribution as a link from the...

    Release It's Here!

Post away. Engadget loves Mr. Blurrycam. Seriously, post it up, IMHO.

    Finished Case Photo!

Does MWeston have the little rubber bumpers for the circular pads at the top edge? That would just about complete the deal. Great work. Now, let's hear if the cases meet the "THUMBS UP" requirement for mass production. What say you, MWeston?

    Finished Case Photo!

Well, he posted the photo of the completed Pandora at 10:16pm by my East Coast screen clock, so I was pretty much spot on with my 10:06 pm posting. YAY!! More PHOTOS!!!

    Finished Case Photo!

I'm guessing that right about now, there is a completed Pandora in MWeston's lair.

    Screws Poll

Slotted screws aren't self centering, and only "grip" on two faces, so they are much more likely to strip, both due to misalignment and small area of torque application. Torx are best, as they have six curved force faces, and they have a deep straight wall to keep the driver in place. Phillips...

    Shipping Date: Guessing Game

There's probably at least one being used for other testing purposes. So, to keep with Craig's Dec. 10th completion date (my conjectures): 1. MWeston receives box from China on Monday (Dec. 7th), and the box has "some" extra complete case part sets. 2. He checks the parts, and they are...

    Shipping Date: Guessing Game

Confirmed: There's more in the box of molded parts going to MWeston than just a test sample or two. Like a box with 105 sets of case parts? Otherwise, how could Craigix make a statement like this?

Are You Likely To Mod Your Pandora

Plug compatible 800 by 480 pixel 5.8" TFT LCD Resistive Touchscreen module. Will fit in the case lid footprint, just have to figure out the speakers, and slice a bigger screen opening.

    Moulds

I really appreciate this response to my earlier post. Here's to hoping you are correct. I have worked in the electronics manufacturing and assembly business, and know how big a task this is. I again am serious about my offer to come down there between now and Chrismas and help out in the...

    Moulds

Based on this information, there is no way any significant number of Pandoras will ship by Christmas, IMHO. (by significant number, I mean more than possibly the original 105, and I'm not very optimistic about them, either). However, January is sounding pretty doable right now for a good number...
