    Bugs and Calculations

One possible problem with making an "economy" version is that that becomes the assumed default. The (now) "extra" features of the other models will be more rarely used by software and the Pyra would be more likely to be viewed as "just another handheld". After all, if the SD-card slots are...

Cellular Discussion [Split from] Bugs and Calculations

I wonder, what would be the cost of a mainboard-only replacement, for changing from non-4G to 4G? Would I be right to surmise that the mainboard is rather cheap compared to the CPU-board and the display?

    Bugs and Calculations

In the past they have had a walk around a server room owned by a particular company -- obviously the company is willing to show them as they can talk about what they do and get publicity. They have talked with various people involved with ARM, who sometimes say things like "we at ARM" etc.. The...

    Bugs and Calculations

@EvilDragon There is a reasonably popular YouTube channel called Computerphile that you may want to contact. Their videos cover a wide spectrum within Computer Science, including the history of Bell Labs, the halting problem, buffer overflow attacks, the difference between a CPU and a GPU and...

    Psychology of Pricing

UK: all prices up-front, with notable exceptions: some of the more annoying restaurants automatically add a "service charge" to the bill as a tip-alternative (do not get me started on tipping -- the second biggest deterrent, after healthcare, for me to visit the USA) plus online flight booking.

    Bugs and Calculations

If I expected a 4G system to come later I may delay for that. I cannot afford to buy two Pyras.

    Bugs and Calculations

@EvilDragon is there any chance of paying the full Pyra price in the pre-order? I would rather pay the full price once than half-price twice -- less effort for me.

    Some Prototype Pictures

I assume that the spatial dimensions of the Pyra are now set. What are they? How does the Pyra's size compare with the Pandora? The image with the printed case made the Pyra look much much thicker, so I expect that the final case will be closer to the Pandora's thickness.

    ... we're still alive!

That's a point. Obviously, the Pyra would need to be opened to access the the microSD card slot, and also the SIM card slot, but would any other things need to be detached to upgrade the microSD card? If so, then providing pre-installed microSD cards may be a valuable service for the clumsy...

    ... we're still alive!

It seems that people are especially likely to forget the internal microSD card slot. I suppose that is inevitable as it is both a. not visible from outside and b. not in the Pandora. @EvilDragon Thought: if it seems likely that the average consumer would forget about the internal microSD, you...

    ... we're still alive!

I wonder, do some people forget that there is an internal microSD slot in the Pyra? In the past I have always used a single partition for both / and /home (and now use a swap file rather than a swap partition) as I do not like the idea of introducing inefficiency through such fragmentation, or...

Pyra - too hot for you!

I am generally against transparent cases, as I think they risk being distracting, but that is a nice picture. Mostly, however, because it shows the screen PCB and the LCD-cable: the lower part looks less pretty and less interesting, in my opinion, and I think the same would apply to the region...

First newspost coming FROM the Pyra!

As an aside, a few months ago I was trying to find texts describing how WINE works, without much success (I believe I lack both patience and skill -- which are related -- for web search); I was thinking of the technical details of creating an Android compatibility layer and whether syscall...

First newspost coming FROM the Pyra!

Is there a difference between emulation and mimicry? Are some comedians emulators?

First newspost coming FROM the Pyra!

Will there be an option to pay the full price up-front? I would rather get the "annoying" part (payment) completed immediately and then await the "fun" part (getting my device), rather than do the "annoying" part twice.

    Pyra Fanart

If the blobs were kept in a separate "non-free" repository, as in Debian, then it should be relatively to purge them using a tool like apt-get. I am geeky as hell, so I may greatly overestimate the efficacy of this, but I think it would be quite good PR to get photographs with Richard Stallman...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

How do you know? I know nothing, of course, but it may be that they thought: "hey, modifying Windows 10 would be hard, so why not simply implement the switching in hardware?" Also, if it is not a hardware limitation, then why would they ever shut off the functionality of all the other buttons...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Going by GPD's own advertising, it appears that one cannot use the physical DPAD, left joystick nor the buttons A, B, X, Y, L2 and R2. Obviously there is not "Simultaneous use of mouse and all other controls". If GPD's own statements are incorrect (which I doubt) then we are blameless until...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

I find that most websites gain little from being more than text + images. I also greatly prefer sites that are well handled by Lynx. Hmmm... currently I have a few hundred tabs open, taking up 12 GiBs. To take up all 32 GiBs would take over 1000, at least. Howeer, when I do have many thousands...
