Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

Have you tried either WhatsApp or Telegram with the Shashlik compatibility layer for Android over GNU/Linux? If neither of them depend on native code (as far as I know, Shashlik has not been tested on an ARM machine with running native code) then they may run on an x86 computer.

    Pyra as a Phone

I made no such request. I merely asked why OLED was avoided. My suspicion -- that it was avoided because of noticeable degradation over a reasonable working life -- was confirmed, thanks to the people who answered me. One can learn quite a bit about the state of current technology by asking...

    Pyra as a Phone

To satisfy my curiosity, do you remember some of the arguments against OLED? I know that OLED screens have burn-in problems, at least in the past. Was there anything else? Does a separate backlight ease changing the brightness? Is OLED (still) too expensive? Without any extra knowledge, and...

    Power, Memory and Schematics

I assume that, since ED has been very busy, not much thought has been given to the licence. Therefore, there is a possibility that it would be changed without too much trouble. Also, there ARE some people for whom this really matters (even if only ideologically, as ideology is one of the...

    Power, Memory and Schematics

Given the SA clause, though, anyone who did sell a derivative version would likely not get much money, as the buyer is free to distribute the document under the same licence, for free (gratis and libre), right? It seems to me that the NC clause would have only a small effect on selling copies...

    Power, Memory and Schematics

That may be true; I am not a lawyer, and I have no idea how the relevant laws differ between jurisdictions. It is clear, however, that the use of "NC" here is causing some FUD, and so should be avoided if without good reason. Besides, who would try to sell the schematics -- or succeed -- if...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

@vcoleiro1 if you could determine that the face buttons have some function while in mouse mode, that would be helpful. It would mean that I could honestly remove the "Simultaneous use of mouse and all other controls" row from the comparison chart...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

What do the face buttons, shoulder buttons and left stick do, in mouse mode? The IndieGoGo campaign seemed to imply that most input would be disabled in mouse mode, other than the right stick and the keyboard. Also, have you used the GPD in mouse mode while running a text editor (e.g. Notepad)...

    Rock solid battery and MicroUSB-Port

Off-topic (perhaps impertinent) questions here, @EvilDragon --: You work(ed) with several other companies -- Golden Delicious, Global Components, FormAction etc. -- to get the Pyra made. I wonder what they think about the Pyra, especially compared with what else they work on? Are any of them...

    SUGGESTION: Hold mode

I asked this question some months ago. If I remember correctly, the HOLD button is missing from the Pyra as the space for it is taken up by the WiFI/CELL antenna. Perhaps LOCK/UNLOCK could be activated by pressing some combination of shoulder buttons, though this would need to be informed by...

    Nintendo Switch

Forgive me for my ignorance, but isn't the entire point of a games console, attached to a TV (the family-available screen of the home), the capacity for local, real-time, multiplayer? Aside from local multiplayer, what is there that a console does better than a desktop for laptop computer...

Minijail build for Pyra PND system

I have only used firejail, but that does not require root access. Assuming there is some command-line program for running DBPs, then the usage would be: 'firejail <options> DBP_runner audacious.dbp' (though the success of that depends on what the DBP_runner needs to access, as firejail might...

Minijail build for Pyra PND system

I have not watched the video, but there are other options to consider as well: firejail and bubblewrap, that I know of. I like that this is being worked on by so many different projects, as I think that the future of a mass-market GNU/Linux desktop system is to distribute non-system software...

When Pyra would be cheaper? When There would be new replacement boards?

On Reddit: go to a couple of subreddits you fancy (perhaps r/linux and r/programming) and open at least 10 tabs from each -- the ones that look more interesting; perhaps also open the original articles cited (if any). On this forum: go to "New Posts" and open up any interesting-looking threads...

The indicator LEDs - what should they do?

I spent some time last night on an LED system design. Firstly, some principles: The power indicator should be on the power button LED. The power button LED and one other on the front should be duplicated on the back. That means that there are 3 RGB LEDS available, with two duplicated. Blue...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

In the past, I remember reinstalling Windows as a matter of course when stuff went wrong. Now, if you buy a computer with Windows on it, it does not come with any CD/DVD/flash-stick, so it is much less straightforward reinstall (and, given that I hardly bother with Windows now and use GNU+Linux...

Gamescom, sensor upgrade and other nice news

I hope the Pyra still fits in my front jeans pocket, like my Pandora. I like to keep important things there as it is difficult to lose or forget them -- their presence can be felt and they cannot easily fall out (or be stolen).
