Ah, over here 3G and 4G are the standard but 2G was shutdown recently since nobody uses it anymore.

In the WIKI it states for voice calling using the 3G module, it will fall back to 2G.

That's because the Discord app is literally a modified version of chromium. I'm serious you can press Ctrl+Shift+I and it will open the chrome Developer Tools.
The reason it's they even have discord as an app is so you can map hotkeys from the desktop (say, for muting yourself) and so you don't...
I suppose it's a lot easier just to CTRL+V a image directly into discord rather than upload to imgur or something and share the link onto an IRC, but that's my opinion anyways
Well the main reason is for voice chat and screenshots which IRC doesn't support, but up to yall.
