PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Actually, it can. Or at least it could, if this thing were real. It can't play it well, but since the surface 3 runs crysis 3 at around 15fps at 720p, the PGS would technically be able to do the same with the same SoC.

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Jesus, less than 2 hours into the campaign and they're already up to almost $30k. Barnum was right, there is a sucker born every minute.

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

That's fantastic. Any idea what the additional devices are? I see they are offering a limited (10 units) titanium version of the hardcore. I wonder what the other two mystery devices consist of. Perhaps a perpetual motion machine?

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

This is supposedly the final version of the KS campaign that will go live some time today. The awful video has been slightly re-edited, but is still every bit as awful. Still no sign of anything even vaguely resembling actual hardware, let alone a functional prototype. Plenty of flashy...

    CHIP 9$ portable computer

And as your communication between computers is limited by your network interconnect (in the CHIP's case, wifi), it only works well for tasks that can be broken up into standalone chunks for processing. It's probably a very interesting project for somebody, but that somebody isn't me. All I...

    CHIP 9$ portable computer

Just got an interesting email from Next Thing Co. It seems they "accidentally" sent a bunch of the kernel hackers two pocketchips instead of one "by mistake". Apparently I'm one of them. Furthermore: Which is a pretty clever promotion, though I wish they'd just come out and say that's what...

    CHIP 9$ portable computer

Honestly, I haven't really played with them much. I got the "kernel hacker" package because that got me a bunch of chips and the pocketchip, not because I'm even remotely qualified to fiddle with the kernel myself. I wanted a bunch of chips in order to set up a cheap sonos-like system in my...

    CHIP 9$ portable computer

Yes. I have already received a total of 5 CHIPs - 1 alpha "kernel hacker" board back in September and 4 regular retail boards a few months ago. Everybody who kickstarted a CHIP board should already have received theirs. It's only the accessories (like the pocketchip) that are finally shipping...

Yep. I hopped on the train early too, so I expect mine is among the first batch to go out.

I got a shipping notification and a tracking number which indicates it's just now leaving China. I should have my pocketchip in a week or so.

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Standard practice is to include a charging cable with a USB-powered device, so I would certainly hope they include one with the unit. Even if they don't, type-c cables and adapters are cheap - if you don't already own them, you might as well get on board because that's what everything will be...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

I hacked together a quick split layout a few months ago that fixes the two biggest problems with their keyboard - the offcenter qwerty layour and the horrendous L3/R3 placement. It could certainly be prettier (you'd definitely want to rearrange the numlock numberpad keys so they're all on the...

The chip itself is still $9. The chip/pocketchip combo is still $49.

CHIP - The World's First Nine Dollar Computer

You can't really compare a pocketchip to a pyra. It's only a fraction as powerful (single 1GHz core), has only 512mb RAM, and only 4GB flash storage (with no SD slot). The display is cheap and low-res, the battery is small, it has no proper gaming controls, and the fit and finish is...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Rotation should be handled in hardware by way of the graphics driver. There won't be any performance impact. I mean this is a tablet SoC, and tablets are specifically intended to be used in either orientation. I can't imagine intel wouldn't work that into their hardware and drivers.

CHIP - The World's First Nine Dollar Computer

When my pocketchip arrives, my first order of business will be to install dosbox and win 3.1. This should be roughly equivilent in speed and capability to my very first computer (486DLC40). I'm going to make 14-year-old-me so damn jealous playing the same games on a $50 handheld that I once...

CHIP - The World's First Nine Dollar Computer

I know this thread is almost a year old, but it's probably worth bringing it up again as they've shipped the kickstarter CHIPs, and are about to start shipping the accessories (including pocketchip) to KS backers. Post-KS CHIP/accessory orders will ship next month (still $9). The pocketchip...

Intel discontinues (sort of) Atom CPUs (relevant to pyra and competitors)

Because as I (and the article) said, intel was losing money on the atom line. They were selling the chips for as little as $17, and that wasn't enough to keep the division afloat. They need to raise prices, and figured rebranding was the easiest way to get away with it. AMD doesn't have...

Intel discontinues (sort of) Atom CPUs (relevant to pyra and competitors)

Just the opposite - the atom chips were too successful. Intel has wanted into the mobile space for forever. The last couple generations of atoms finally managed it, though a combination of actually being decent chips, and being dirt cheap. Today you can buy an atom-based tablet, convertible...
