PowKiddy V90 - Clamshell GBA Emu Device

I saw this announced a while back. It's pretty low-power and it still has all the usual allwinner issues (screen tearing), but considering it's pretty much the only GBA-SP style device out there and that it's only $30, it's certainly a decent deal for what it is. If you were a big fan of the...

    PiBoy DMG - Finally a well-built, affordable RPi4 handheld

ETA has a couple new videos showing some more emulation tests and how to assemble the device. He also confirmed that steamlink works well, and that the battery life is 3-4hrs under normal operation, or about 2hrs if you overclock for very demanding games. Not amazing, but about what I...

    PiBoy DMG - Finally a well-built, affordable RPi4 handheld

I don't disagree that landscape > portrait, but I understand why they do it. Using an OG gameboy layout is the only "acceptable" way to get the device this thick. If you had a bespoke landscape handheld this thick, everybody would complain about how chonky it is. But it needs to be as thick...

    PiBoy DMG - Finally a well-built, affordable RPi4 handheld

According to this discussion, the RPi is just designed that way. They needed to build it to a price, and the "it's either on or off" setup they have was the cheapest way to get it to do what it was intended to do. I would certainly prefer a near-instant sleep/wake as well, but I guess it is...

What are you playing this weekend/these days?

I picked up a copy of Carrion today and played for a good 45min before I needed to get back to work. It's a very fun and very icky game that you can pick up DRM-free for PC, mac, or linux on GOG.

    PiBoy DMG - Finally a well-built, affordable RPi4 handheld

I just saw elsewhere that you can get 10% off with the code " FB10". Since I already have a couple RPi4s lying around, that pushed me over the edge. Just placed an order.

    OneNetbook OneGX

Yeah, way too rich for my blood. I mean it's not egregious considering the specs and capability, but considering I hardly even used the dozen or so handhelds I already have, I certainly can't justify dropping a grand on a chonky toy.

Looks like the cat's officially out of the bag. It's now available on amazon in a couple different RAM/storage configurations for between $970 and $1200. Here's an extended emulation test showing GC and wii performance using dolphin:

What are you playing this weekend/these days?

I'm back on WoW (WotLK private server), along with my wife and a bunch of IRL friends who we played with back in the day. I'm "lucky" in that my work is still very much active and I can do everything from home, but it means that all my furloughed friends are blowing past me leveling half a...

    OneNetbook OneGX

Definitely a chunky beast, but that's kind of inevitable with the TDP and battery they're claiming. The side pic is pretty clear, and what I'm not seeing is anything that looks like a secure attachment point for the "joycons". I'm wondering if they're actually going to be two separate devices...

    OneNetbook OneGX

With all the coronavirus-related slowdowns and backlogs, I think we can safely assume they're not going to hit that date. If we're lucky, they might send a few preproduction units to reviewers before they can actually get production started. That might allow time for them to be made aware of...

Popcorn Pocket PC - A Linux handheld terminal

Just found this posting over on the PocketCHIP subreddit. Apparently some former employees of the now-defunct Next Thing Computing have started their own SBC/handheld company called Popcorn. They seem to be working along the same lines as Next Thing, with a couple of CHIP-compatible boards in...

    Odroid-Go Advance

If that's all she's after, this probably isn't the best option. My first suggestion would be the bittboy pocket-go. It's a lot smaller (more pocketable), slightly cheaper, and a little less janky. If she prefers the vertical form factor of the OG gameboy, the RG300 is pretty nice too.
