How to calculate a price for the Pyra

My googlefu suggests that's currently around £360, what do I have to take into account when converting that into GBP?  Do I have to add some sort of tax/VAT to get an indicative price?  Am I looking at around £400 assuming the Euro stays in the gutter (thanks Greece).

    OMAP5432 at home !

Aren't you worried that the Pyra will be released in Two Months™ and render your purchase somewhat obselete?

Updates in all areas, spiced with case renders

I don't want to see a colour that the Pandora has been available in, I'd rather they be clearly differentiated. I'd like yellow, but I know that's never going to fly.  So either cobalt blue or gunmetal grey methinks.

Gentoo based OS image (Pyra) -EOI

That doesn't really hold water either, systemd is highly modular and most things are optional.  The code governing PID1 is fairly small.  The other stuff (commonly considered bloat by systemd haters) has no more attack surface than the stuff it replaces.

    full OMAP5 documentation

Thanks, got them now. I think they are just covering themselves.  There wasn't much of a verification procedure, it let me have the documents immediately.  I've had harder times getting non-prescription drugs online.

    full OMAP5 documentation

I just went to get them, just in case.  But you have to sign away your life to access them.  Are those terms and conditions for real, should they be taken seriously?  If you're not associated with a company then what do you put in the company name bit?  What do people put when they ask you why...

    Pyra's root filesystem.

    btrfs is mature https://news.opensuse.org/2014/11/12/what-to-expect-from-btrfs-on-opensuse-13-2/

    Pyra's root filesystem.

Btrfs is perfectly mature now. But wouldn't F2FS be a better fit?  It's a file system specifically designed for flash storage.

What Desktop Environment is going to be used on this?

...in the future, when it's ready.  I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves.  Wayland is barely useable / highly experimental at the minute.  You pretty much need to use a rolling release distro (arch/gentoo etc.), a RebeccaBlackOS iso or the alpha of the next version of Fedora to use it...

What Desktop Environment is going to be used on this?

I'm not an expert, but I'm not entirely convinced that Wayland will increase battery consumption, I think it'll increase battery life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtXQJ0c5q0k

What Desktop Environment is going to be used on this?

I hope XFCE isn't used, current active development is lower than alternatives. I'd want something that has active plans to move to more advanced technologies like the Enlightenment which is making progress towards Wayland support.

The long road to a final unit

Great to hear you're targeting the most recent kernel, it will allow for things like using the F2FS filesystem which I'm keen to try.

    Which distro to use? (Poll)

^ probably Debian.  If I were you I'd go with the version with the XFCE desktop.
  14. kaprikawn

    Which distro

Yeah, but there was issues with some fundamental dependency (ncurses iirc) which meant that you couldn't download a whole host of stuff.  It was pretty much useless.

    SoC: Back and forth!

Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into another SoC thread, it was just a aside question. Soooooooo, how about that case........

    SoC: Back and forth!

Does this mean the OMAP has been chosen / confirmed?  I'm wondering whether to buy a dev unit?

I like the first one. The second one looks too much like the Assassin's Creed logo for my liking. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

    GStreamer DSP test

This might be of interest: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTMxMTQ The way I'm reading it, it needs a recent kernel, so maybe not so useful now.  But could be good news for .next.  Unless I'm reading it wrongly (which wouldn't be the first time).

RMA timescales - how long does it take them to respond?

I cracked the screen on my first batch pandora and raised an RMA early in January.  In the meantime, Craig sent that email saying they'd take my old Pandora back and replace it with a 1ghz unit for $349 so I replied to that email saying I'd take them up on the offer seeing as I had to send my...
