    SystemD Debates

This is just some dudes opinion masquerading as a news article. I trust the judgement of the maintainers of Arch (and the rest of the distros that have adopted systemd) over the opinion of some Swiss guy I've never heard of.

I've decided to make good on my promise to myself to learn to program. And I'm currently making a game which is a throwback to the old crosshair shooter games like Blood Bros and Cabal. Much of the core engine is now done, I just need to add a few small things and build the levels. My art...

    Flash Player Support

All of the TV catchup sites in the UK I use (BBC iPlayer, 4OD and the ITV one) frustratingly still use Flash. Luckily I use Chrome on every desktop computer I use so I don't have to install that abomination. But it shows there are still some holdouts.

    File system question.

What filesystem will be used by default on the Pyra? I would've thought something like F2FS would be best given it's specifically geared towards towards flash memory?

    Pyra and Raspberry Pi?

I can't help but feel like you're only looking at this from specifically your point-of-view. I don't want or need a Pyra with RPi either. I want future upgrades with the latest SoC too. People who frequent this board, who are invested in the Pyra, have reasonably similar ideas about what they...

    Pyra and Raspberry Pi?

I don't think having RPi internals to a Pyra makes a lot of sense (in a technical context) to those of us who are informed of the situation. But I still think it's a good idea to do it. The reason is that the RPi has a lot of mainstream reach and recognition. If you can get a Pyra shell with...

    Available technologies and versions?

Interesting post, thanks for your input. I'm by no means ignorant to how much work it'll be, but I'd much rather do everything myself and gain an understanding of how everything works as opposed to using Unity/Unreal etc. and have that obfuscate what's going on behind the scenes. I do a lot of...

    Available technologies and versions?

Thanks, that's really useful. My thinking behind rolling my own engine rather than using middleware is that I want to gain an understanding of how things work under the hood. I don't want to use code that I don't understand, kinda like writing HTML in a text editor before using Dreamweaver (or...

    Available technologies and versions?

I'm trying to learn game development at the minute and I'd like to target the Pyra, but my googlefu is somewhat letting me down in trying to pinpoint what technologies I'll have available to me. At the minute I'm just learning the basics with C++ and SDL2 and making good progress. My goal is...

What software/emulators are in development for the Pyra?

Why have you got browsers as a section with a question mark? sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install [name of browser] should suffice, I can't imagine anyone would need to port a browser.

What will a Pyra be able to do that the OpenPandora can't do now?

Ah, ok, it's been a while (as in years) since I used my Pandora, the screen is bust. I've got a replacement but haven't got around to fitting it. When I did update && upgrade, the os broke. I think the ncurses version in the repo was the main culprit. I assume aTc has been doing some good...

What WM/DE will Pyra OS use?

@bzar Point taken, you are of course right, @Plume The discussion could well be all academic. Wayland needs EGL and KMS, I don't know whether they're possible using the driver we'll get on the Pyra, but I suspect not. Maybe someone else more knowledgeable could chime in.

What WM/DE will Pyra OS use?

Wayland is perfectly stable and has been for a long time now. It just requires a compositor to take advantage, and that's the bit that isn't mature yet. The big toolkits (GTK and qt in particular) have good support, we're just waiting for the DEs to implement their Wayland compositors. Gnome...

    Devuan, anyone?

Erroring without a sufficient log in the event of a mounting error, if true (and I'm not questioning that), is a legitimate criticism. I'm not going to defend that, it's bad. But it does not automatically make systemd bad, it's just one flaw, no software is perfect. My point-of-view is, the...

    Devuan, anyone?

As already pointed out on the previous page http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.mount.html So in your usecase, quite rightly pointed out by the previous poster as being rather fringe, if an expensive drone is at stake, maybe just set options to meet the requirements? Just...

    Two preorders approaching!

Could someone tell me how the ICP2 figures in all of this please?  I haven't kept up with the news here. I backed the ICP2, but when it all collapsed I did nothing, I didn't seek a refund or whatever the other options were, I didn't send any emails or anything.  I couldn't be bothered with the...
